Einherjer reveals track list

Metalnews Power of
September the legendary viking metal band Einherjer will release their combackalbum “NORRØN”.

It is without a doubt an album which combines the best qualities from all of Einherjer’s previous albums. It’s dark bombastic and aggressive, but still atmospheric, beautiful and melancholic.

The album was mixed by Matt Hyde, known for his work with Slayer and Monster Magnet. It was recorded at the bands own studio in Haugesund and produced by Einherjers, Frode Glesnes himself.

“NORRØN” has the quality to send you on a musical journey where your present dies and all your senses starts to relive the music. Where you are plunged into a life of forgotten wisdom, beliefs and forces. Where all that was lost and taken has been resurrected. Where you stand steadfast on Norse ground, calling for revenge from your heathen heart.

Gerhard rambles on…“This is an album that has caused much joy and despair in the creative process. I hope and believe all the blood, sweat and hard work reflect and colour our relentless pursuit of creating something beautiful, original and epic, and at the same time giving you the raw and attacking feeling of the real Viking Metal spirit.”

Sepultura parts ways with Derrick Green

Metalnews Power of
São Paulo, Brazil-based thrash metallers MUSICA DIABLO have parted ways with SEPULTURA singer Derrick Green.
Commented MUSICA DIABLO guitarist André NM (also of NITROMINDS): “It was very hard for us to take this decision, but Derrick being very busy for the last two years was making things hard especially to perform live. Lately we have been demoing for the new album, even Derrick was trying to do have an input on the process while on tour with SEPULTURA, but fact is that we all (including him) came to a conclusion that is not possible with the busy agenda from his other band to make things work as we wanted. We are now looking for a new singer to prepared and finish the material we have and get the band on the road again. As for Derrick, we all wish him and SEPULTURA the best luck with their new album, ‘Kairos’.”

Almah comments on first live shows in 2011

Metalnews Power of
Brazilian metallers ALMAH have recently finished recording of the new album at Norcal Studios (São Paulo, Brazil). As previously reported, the future CD will be entitled MOTION.  Last week ALMAH played a short “warm-up” tour around the Northeast of Brazil including two headlining shows at the famous 13th ForCaos (Fortaleza) and Armazem do Som (Juazeiro do Norte) festivals, and series of supporting events such as singing sessions, a pocket show and workshops. ALMAH came back to live activities after a one-year break and the band was highly acclaimed by the public at all the events. The musicians are looking forward to the upcoming release and tour of MOTION. Meanwhile, ALMAH’s bass player Felipe Andreoli revealed a few details about the recent gigs.
Felipe Andreoli (bass): “It was very pleasant to hit the stage with Almah again after one year. Not only because I love the music, but also because we always have a good time together, as friends. It's a very special and privileged relationship. We had a couple of rehearsals just to take the rust off our hands - and throats, for that matter, but it was surprisingly easy to put everything together as far as performance and sound. It honestly didn't seem like we hadn't played together one year ago. It felt more like a little while. What's funny is that we seem to play better together every time, even when we don't play for months!”

The new CD "Motion" will see the light of day via AFM Records this fall. The release date will be announced soon. The album is produced by Edu Falaschi and Felipe Andreoli. ALMAH already started to prepare the new Motion World Tour. According to Felipe: "I'd love to go everywhere, of course! But most of all, I'm really excited to play the new songs live, I believe they will work brilliantly! We're really proud of Motion".

The complete story with Felipe Andreoli's interview and footage is available at this location:

Stereogum premiers new Opeth song

Metalnews Power of

Swedish progressive metal stalwarts Opeth’s 10th album Heritage — which follows 2008′s Watershed and 2005′s Ghost Reveries — is their strangest, most genre-melding to date. For starters it includes guest spots from Swedish flautist/composer Björn J:son Lindh and Weather Report percussionist Alex Acuña. As you may have guessed, it also includes 100% clean singing.

Main man Mikael Åkerfeldt refers to Opeth records as “observations.” Of this one he notes, “[I]t feels like I’ve been building up to write for and participate on an album like this since I was 19.” Fittingly, he says he listened to a bunch of Alice Cooper over the past year. There’s also something youthful about the exuberant blend of jazz upswings, “God is dead” lyrics, and stop-on-a-dime tempo shifts in lead single “The Devil’s Orchard.” On the album it follows the two-minute scene-setting opening piano piece “Heritage,” a song Åkerfelt says was inspired by Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson and Swedish folk music.

01 “Heritage”
02 “The Devil’s Orchard”
03 “I Feel the Dark”
04 “Slither”

05 “Nepenthe”
06 “Haxprocess”
07 “Famine”
08 “The Lines in My Hand”
09 “Folklore”
10 “Marrow of the Earth”

Heritage is out 9/20 via Roadrunner. Åkerfeldt produced the record and mixed it with Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson. Travis Smith worked with Åkerfeldt to create album artwork.

Battlecross stream new album

Metalnews Power of
Music video for Push, Pull, Destroy to debut on Metal Injection

Today, Revolver Magazine hosts a worldwide premiere of BATTLECROSS's upcoming full-length debut Pursuit of Honor, scheduled to hit European record shelves on July 29th/August 1st. Pursuit of Honor contains 11 tracks (10 songs plus intro) that Metal Assault says are "bristling with fist-pumping, face-melting heavy metal at its finest." While Metal Sucks notes "Guitarists Tony Asta and Hiran Deraniyagala of Detroit's BATTLECROSS are childhood friends just like Axl and Vince — ain't that cute? But for realz, there's a certain kind of chemistry that comes with knowing someone for so long, and in the case of BATTLECROSS you can hear it in the tightness, conciseness and stellar riffery of their MB debut Pursuit of Honor."

"Our mindset was to deliver a no bulls***, straight to the point, bang your head, relentless punishment kind of record. I want this album to give people chills. Like driving 90 in a 40 mph speed zone and not even realizing it. We want people to feel like they can take on the world after listening to this record" comments the band of the record.

"Blurring the lines of old-school thrash and new-school melodic deathcore, these 10 songs plus intro have that knack of producing instantaneous aural excitement… With Pursuit of Honor, they prove Americans can balance thrash, death and a touch of the modern screams without pandering to the lowest common denominator." 8.5/10

"Overall I would go as far as saying that this is one of the most 'complete' heavy metal albums I have heard in recent times. Not only does it have elements that fans of a variety of sub-genres can relate to, but it combines them excellently well to result in a very cohesive, well-rounded album. Whether you're a fan of traditional metal stalwarts like Iron Maiden, groove metal heavyweights like Pantera and Lamb of God, Megadeth-esque technical thrash metal, death metal, or even power metal, you will most definitely enjoy this album." 9 ½ / 10

About the band:
With the mindset to create a sonic metal assault unlike any other, childhood friends, Tony Asta and Hiran Deraniyagala, set forth on the path to shred and abandoned the idea of following any trends. The guitar slinging duo brought an infused style of old school metal with dark elements of thrash and death metal and destined to find the right members.

Struggling for years to find reliable and dedicated members, the true formation of BATTLECROSS was born in 2007 when Drummer Mike Kreger responded a want ad, and added a machine-like, brutal precision on the drums, and proved to be just the right match for Tony and Hiran's mature and technical style of thrash. Bringing a whole new level of musicianship and intensity with his quick finger picking and tasty solos, Bassist Don Slater joined the group, bringing a skill and technique that impresses even the most prolific bassists. The thrash metal band was finally complete when popular area vocalist, Kyle "Gumby" Gunther joined the band. Known for his command of the stage and alternating deep growls with high pitched screams, Gumby punishes the audience and inspires pits of rage.

Together, the five-piece create an unforgettable and energetic live show that decimates their audience with raw energy and persistence, that has earned a style of their own: "Blue Collar Thrash Metal", in reference to the hard-working, 'never give up' attitude of those who hail from the Motor City.

This reputation for technical talent, humility and kick ass live shows resonated throughout the regional metal scene and BATTLECROSS soon became a fan and band favorite. Sharing the stage with the likes of Dying Fetus, GWAR, Devil Driver, The Absence, Vital Remains, The Faceless and Metal Fests throughout the Midwest, BATTLECROSS began to bang heads nationally with a nod from MySpace-A Place for Metal's 2008 'Best Unsigned Metal Band' contest, for being 'Metal Sucks' worthy, Mike Kreger's crowning as & Zildjian's 'Sickest Dirt Fest Drummer' and featured on local, national and global metal radio.

Incorporating many elements of extreme thrash, death and tech metal, creating a precise blend of fist pumping brutality, intensity, and drive, BATTLECROSS satisfies both the tech-metal guru and the old-school die hard alike.

The band's Metal Blade debut is set to release August 2nd, 2011, followed by a tour that will bring a face melting thrash metal assault. The band's Metal Blade debut was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Random Awesome Recording Studio in Bay City, MI and produced by BATTLECROSS and Josh Schroeder.
