Cirith Ungol launches landing page

Metalnews Power of
Ventura, CA's CIRITH UNGOL, one of the most underrated bands from the early 80s metal scene, released four albums between 1980 and 1991. CIRITH UNGOLs catalogue is being celebrated through the release of a collection of rare and live tracks on the 2 CD/1 DVD double digipak album, Servants of Chaos. Servants was originally released exclusively in Europe back in 2001 and a DVD has been added to augment the already stellar collection of music. The DVD contains an entire, rarely seen live show, shot on November 9th, 1984 at the storied, and now defunct, Wolf and Rissmiller's Country Club in Reseda, CA. The CD/DVD Digipak and triple vinyl will be available on November 18th/21st, 2011.

The name CIRITH UNGOL is pronounced "kirith ungol" and is an Elvish phrase meaning "pass of the spider", which is something that Lord of the Rings fans will surely recognize. The name is, of course, indicative of the band's fantasy-oriented lyrics, themes and beautiful album artwork.

This live-DVD is the first live relic ever to be released by CIRITH UNGOL!

Comments Robert Garven jr.: "This amateur video was never meant to be released. The audio was taken off the mixing console. As we were an opening act, we had little or no sound check, room on stage, and restricted access to the lighting and sound. Even though, this rare and primitive video is one of the few ever taken of the band!"

Bolt Thrower re-issues out now

Metalnews Power of
On the 21st/24th of October, Metal Blade Records Europe finally re-issued the three BOLT THROWER albums Mercenary, Honour Valour Pride and Those Once Loyal on vinyl. All three albums are out now as Gatefold LPs in coloured vinyl!

Make sure to purchase your copies asap since orders are going fast!

BOLT THROWER comments on their 25th Anniversary: "Anniversaries are kind of easy to achieve. For a band, just don't split up and you'll reach one, whether it's 10, 20 or 35 years. And this year we've reached '25 years of not splitting up'!

We managed to stop others from making a big fuss about it, and didn't give in to the numerous offers and suggestions on how we should cash in on it! But it has made us appreciate the opportunities we've been given since 1986, and that we've been able to do everything we wanted to do without compromising in any way. We've been lucky enough to have played a lot of killer shows with great bands and met a lot of very cool people over the years, and we think that's the stuff that deserves some kind of celebration.

So, we want to organize a Bolty Birthday Bash, where we can reunite with some of these bands and invite you, the people who have supported us over the last 25 years. We were hoping to have everything worked out by now, but it turns out organizing a free show comes with its own unique problems, but we'll get there in the end! Well, that's all we can say for now, there will be more news to come soon, so keep checking back."

Amon Amarth touring the UK

Metalnews Power of
AMON AMARTH have announced a six-date tour of the UK and Ireland including English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish dates along with confirmation of a Hammerfest appearance.

Frontman Johan Hegg comments: "We're excited to be coming back to the UK and Ireland with a proper headlining show. We've been looking forward to this since our support tour (with Children Of Bodom) in April, and it feels great that it is finally happening!"

GRAND MAGUS will join them on all dates except Hammerfest.

14/03/12 – UK – Belfast – Mandella Hall

Candlelight Records signs Corrosion of Conformity

Metalnews Power of

London: Candlelight Records today proudly announces the worldwide signing of Corrosion of Conformity. Since early this year, the band – featuring the esteemed Animosity line-up of vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and drummer/vocalist Reed Mullin - has been working with long-time producer John Custer. Now nearly complete, their still untitled eighth studio album is planned for release early in the new year.

Gathering last summer to jam as a trio for the first time in over a decade, the treasured threesome quickly rekindled the magic that originally united and ultimately bound the musicians on a journey that today continues to impress both fans and critics. It is the efforts of this line-up that Decibel Magazine recently called “a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk. Corrosion of Conformity irrevocably reshaped crossover’s sonic possibilities.” notes, ”C.O.C. weren’t following any trends. They just incorporated all the things they liked about thrash, punk and ’70s metal originators Black Sabbath into their constantly evolving sound. It secured them artistic and commercial credibility.”

Candlelight’s Steve Beatty says of the signing, “Animosity is one of my favourite records ever. To have C.O.C. on Candlelight with that line-up is simply mouth watering. I saw the band in London recently and they did not disappoint. This hungry child can’t wait for the record.” Candlelight’s Edward Christie adds, “we are extremely excited to welcome the band to the label and are looking forward to an amazing album. We are all huge fans and this is truly a memorable day for all of us.”

The band shares the excitement the immediate future holds. Woody Weatherman comments, "writing and recording this new record as a three-piece has been a blast. Having Reed back in the fold with Mike and I brings it around full circle. I'm really looking forward to all that lies ahead this upcoming year."

Reed Mullen adds, “Mike, Woody and I essentially learned how to play music together and cultivated our own style, sound, and unspoken language. Re-bonding with them musically has been the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me.”

In addition to intense work on the album, Corrosion of Conformity has kept busy in 2011 touring throughout the US and abroad. One of the main attractions at this year’s Maryland Death Festival, the band mesmerized a salivating capacity audience. Sean Palmerston, editor for Canada’s online magazine Hellbound, said, “I lapped this set up. It was like the tastiest comfort food after a hard day’s work. I haven’t listened to those classic C.O.C. albums in a long, long time. It put a smile on my face.”

Mike Dean says of the new songs, “we have been overdubbing vocals and guitars in between our live dates for the better part of a year. Now it's time to mix. The process we started back in April is finally coming to fruition. The results should reflect all eras of the band's existence filtered through our current reality. This is a beast we can't wait to set free."

Formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982, Corrosion of Conformity quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States alone, the new album will be their first since 2005’s In the Arms of God. On release, Billboard Magazine called the album a “riff-fueled set that ranks with (the band’s) best work.”

Corrosion of Conformity will perform with Danzig tonight at the Gibson Ampitheater in Los Angeles. The band’s final performances for 2011 will be alongside Clutch December 27 through 31. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster and venue box offices.

12/28 – State Theater, Portland ME

Basick Records signs Blotted Science

Metalnews Power of
BLOTTED SCIENCE — the forward-thinking, progressive metal act featuring
guitarist/mastermind Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, TERRESTRIAL EXILED, SPASTIC INK), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL), and new arrival, drummer Hannes Grossmann (OBSCURA, TERRESTRIAL EXILED) — has inke a European deal with Basick Records. The band's long-awaited EP, "The Animation Of Entomology", which was released in the U.S. on October 4 via Jarzombek's EclecticElectric label, will be made available in Europe on November 28. The cover art was created by Atlanta, Georgia-based artist Richard Morley of Morley Arts and can be seen below.

Commented Jarzombek: "I'm really excited to be partnering with Barley and the Basick Records crew on the new BLOTTED SCIENCE record, 'The Animation of Entomology'. They are a young, exciting company on the cutting edge, whose roster is very much compatible with what BLOTTED SCIENCE is all about, so I feel like this will be a great home for us. Feeding 'The Animation Of Entomology' into their distribution channels should noticeably improve our retail visibility and availability compared to 'The Machinations Of Dementia'. I'm looking forward to working with Basick and maximizing our potential to the fullest in Europe!"

Added Basick label owner Barley: "Having been a huge admirer of Ron's output for a number of years, it gives me great pleasure to welcome BLOTTED SCIENCE to the family! I can’t wait to get this record out to all our dedicated fans in Europe!"

Described as "a cross between CANNIBAL CORPSE, SPASTIC INK, and a Bugs Bunny cartoon," "The Animation Of Entomology" takes Jarzombek's fascination with animated cartoons and creepy crawlies to a whole new level. Having experimented with writing complex pieces of music to sync up with movie sequences in the past with his previous outfit SPASTIC INK, the concept has now been applied to BLOTTED SCIENCE over the course of seven songs and a total of 24 minutes of music.

Said Jarzombek: "We wanted to follow up 'The Machinations Of Dementia' along some of the same lines of science and gore, and came up with a killer concept and some great material with yet another 12-tone writing system. I totally busted my ass syncing things up, carefully orchestrated music to film, bug movies actually, and nit-picked notes to death on this material until my fingers bled and my brain nearly exploded. How everything falls into place I think is beyond incredible! Whether this is the heaviest or most technical thing I've ever done, I don't really know or care, but no other band/project is pulling off what we are doing with this EP."

"The Animation Of Entomology" track listing:
01. Ingesting Blattaria
02. Cretaceous Chasm
03. Vermicular Asphyxiation
04. A Sting Operation - I. Human Barbequed
05. A Sting Operation - II. Cessation Sanitation
06. A Sting Operation - III. Seeing Dead People
07. A Sting Operation - IV. Omitting Eyes

Christian Mistress completes recordings

Metalnews Power of
Olympia, Washington’s traditional heavy metal band, Christian Mistress, have completed recording their Relapse Records debut album. The full-length, titled "Possession", was recorded with former The Fucking Champs guitarist Tim Green at Louder Studios (Melvins, Saviours, Red Sparowes, Unwound) and mastered by John Golden at Golden Mastering.

"Possession"'s full track list is as follows: 'Over & Over', 'Pentagram and Crucifix', 'Conviction', 'The Way Beyond', 'Possession', 'Black to Gold', 'There is Nowhere', 'Haunted Hunted', and 'All Abandon'.
"Possession" is currently set for a March 5, 2012 release in Europe and the album's Benjamin A. Vierling-adorned art can be previewed here.

Christian Mistress (Christine Davis: vocals, Oscar Sparbel: guitar, Ryan McClain: guitar, Johnny Wulf: bass, Reuben Storey: drums) formed in 2007, while the band’s 2009 mini-LP, "Agony & Opium", received international critical acclaim for its unflinchingly authentic take on American heavy metal.

“Specializing in the filthier, more raucous side of the NWOBHM… Christian Mistress’s real strength lies in singer Christine Davis, whose raspy, dusky voice adds a unique presence…”

“… seriously: fuck a bandwagon, Christian Mistress feel like a one-band revival machine.”

Sanctuary close to new deal

Metalnews Power of
Rock My Monkey TV conducted an interview with SANCTUARY/NEVERMORE singer Warrel Dane on October 2, 2011 at El Corazon in Seattle, Washington (where EVERGREY and BLACKGUARD were performing). You can now watch the chat below.

On his recent comments about former NEVERMORE drummer Van Williams ("I mean, I could give a shit about our drummer — we never got along anyway"):

Dane: "I was taken aback by things I had heard by certain friends, and I may have said some things that I might regret. But at the same time, we were never the best of friends. And is that a bad thing to say — that we were never the best of friends? No. Not really, in my opinion, anyway."

On former FORCED ENTRY guitarist Brad Hull's addition to SANCTUARY:

Dane: "Brad toured with SANCTUARY back in 1990 when our original guitar player, Sean Blosl, quit the band just before Jeff Loomis joined the band. So it was kind of a natural thing for us to go back to him. And he fits so well. He showed up at the shows wearing the stretched jeans and the white high-tops and he had the uniform on and he just rocked like crazy; it was great. We did one show in Seattle — a warm-up show that wasn't the best in our career — and then we went to Atlanta and we did ProgPower, and that was crazy. That was great. And then we did two shows in Greece, which were just astounding."

On SANCTUARY's future plans:

Dane: "We're gonna do a new record. We've got a lot of new songs written and we're working on a deal with Century Media; it's kind of an imminent thing. I've been with that label since 1995, so I know the people that work there, I trust them, and I have a very good working relationship with them, so it makes the most sense for me right now. And for the rest of the guys, too. So we'll see. Nothing's ever written in stone, but it looks like that's what's gonna happen."
On whether guitarists can still send audition videos to be considered for the vacant lead axeman position in NEVERMORE:

Dane: "Yeah, they can still send them, but it's really kind of challenging to wade through all the stuff. Some of these kids are amazing; some of them suck. It's just kind of overwhelming. To tell you the truth, I'd rather have Jeff [Loomis] back, but you never know what's gonna happen with that. He's been calling me. We still talk. But I don't know…"

Hull and Shannon Sharp, one of the moderators at, were the top picks for the SANCTUARY second-guitarist position. Brad, having previously toured with SANCTUARY, was given the opportunity to play the dates in Atlanta (ProgPower USA XII festival) and Greece.

Hull has spent the last two years playing the role of "James Hetfield" in the METALLICA tribute band BLISTERED EARTH, which plays "classic songs ranging from 1983's 'Kill 'Em All' to 1991's self-titled 'Metallica'."

SANCTUARY's current touring lineup:
Warrel Dane - Vocals
Lenny Rutledge - Guitar
Brad Hull - Guitars
Jim Sheppard - Bass
Dave Budbill – Drums

In a recent interview, Dane stated about how SANCTUARY's reformation came about, "[SANCTUARY guitarist Lenny Rutledge and I] always talked to each other, but never really been friends again. And when the whole thing came about, that we were actually friends again, that's when we started talking more about doing it. And it definitely wasn't because NEVERMORE was imploding... which it was, at that point... We all just started talking with each other again. That was kind of the groundwork for it. And then we started saying, 'Well, gosh, let's make music again.' And my god! Lenny is writing some stuff that is so friggin great! Obviously, he's been bottling this up for years, because he really hasn't been doing anything... Well, he's had bands here and there. But he's really writing some great stuff that's really inspiring me, and making me fall in love with music again, with the creative process... everything that revolves around that. Really inspiring me to write really evil lyrics."

Regarding the sound of SANCTUARY's upcoming studio album, tentatively titled "The Year The Sun Died", Dane said, "This record is not going to sound like the other two. It might sound very similar to the second one ('Into The Mirror Black'). It's definitely not going to sound like the first one, because we're all a little bit older and I can't come up with a c-clamp for a scrotum and a helium tank... It's not going to sound like the old ones... it's 2011. It's still gonna be that good, I think, and there's gonna be high-pitched screaming. I'm making sure of that. With NEVERMORE, high-pitched screaming was never really called for. You know, with SANCTUARY... of course it is."

SANCTUARY played its first U.S. show in more than 20 years on January 21 at El Corazon in Seattle, Washington.

Massacre Records signs Re-Armed

Metalnews Power of
RE-ARMED have been up since 2001, when five guys in Kerava, Finland decided to start playing music similar to so-called "Göteborg metal".

Their musical style has evolved along with many critically acclaimed demo tapes. Becoming a style that is combination of technical, grooving death metal with thrash and grind influences, spiced up with melodic lines.

During the years some line-up changes have occurred the band but they have still managed to grow musically, as well as individuals.

Intimkoncert med HateSphere

Metalnews Power of
Den 12. november afslutter HateSphere første EU-run på spillestedet Lygten, tæt på Nørrebro st. i København, med en intimkoncert, hvor bandets seneste udgivelse, The Great Bludgeoning, vil være i fokus.

Bandet udtaler:
"Dette bliver ikke nogen almindelig HateSphere-koncert. Da vi ikke har haft tid til at holde en proper release party, vil vi denne aften spille hele The Great Bludgeoning live. Massacre Records signs Prey for Nothing

Metalnews Power of
PREY FOR NOTHING was forged in the fiery cities of northern Israel.

After playing with Iron Maiden's original singer, Paul Di'Anno, Yaniv Aboudy (guitars), Amir Salomon (bass) and Iftah Levi (drums) decided to dissolve their prog-metal band Damnnation in order to form a band more extreme and write songs more suitable to their musical taste.

PREY FOR NOTHING was joined by Yotam 'Defiler' Avni (vocals) with his acid throat and iron lungs, and the band released their debut album "Violence Divine" in 2008.

Inspired by classic metal acts like Death, At The Gates and Testament, the band was joined by second guitarist Tal Behar (Orphaned Land live guitar player) and toured Israel, growing a massive following in the local scene.

Combining progressive metal elements to sheer death metal brutality, PREY FOR NOTHING can attract the fans of Opeth, Behemoth and all in between!

PREY FOR NOTHING's second album "Against All Good And Evil" will be released on December 9, 2011!

Yotam 'Defiler' Avni - Vocals

Album info from Rob Mancini

Metalnews Power of
The new album “Rock’n'Roll Circus” could best be described as a reflective but modern influenced crossover between the roots of late 80s and early 90s melodic rock. Think Bon Jovi with a Nickelback kick, infused with his own signature, a powerfully stomping rhythm guitar section, addictive keyboards and catchy melody lines sung by lead vocalist, guitarist and RockDoc Rob Mancini.

After almost a decade of recording abstinence, touring the Irish Club scene, Irelands German-Italian born rock musician and producer, Rob Mancini is back on track with the smash hit, “Edge of a broken heart” and the powerful ballad “Every time you Cry” from his new album “Rock’n'Roll Circus“.

The Amenta working on new album

Metalnews Power of
The Amenta is currently writing, recording and pre-producing the full length follow up to 2008’s divisive “n0n” album. With a working title of “Flesh is Heir”, the third full length is a crystallization of The Amenta’s methods. Featuring the expansive, aggressive riffing of the “Occasus” album and the ambient electronic destruction of “n0n”, “Flesh is Heir” also introduces a new eeriness courtesy of frontman, Cain Cressall and the unique musical and visual element that he brings to the band.

Lyrically, “Flesh is Heir” deals with the two warring sides of the human psyche: The Obliterate (the part of the human that seeks to escape worldly woes by destroying the concept of self) and The Realist ( the part that embraces pain, seeing it as a challenge, the meeting of which creates a better human).

Working titles include: “Ego Ergo Sum”, “Flesh is Heir”, “Cell” and “Teeth”.

The Amenta estimate that the album will be available early 2012.

The Amenta’s last release, the epic, multifaceted, free to download release, “V01D” is still available for free download from

Here the statement from Johannes Prem:

...time to say goodbye...

After over 15 years of heavy music and being one of the founding members of Deadlock it is time to start a new chapter in my life.

It was not an easy decision for me to split ways with my longtime friends but as life goes on everybody has to learn where to set his priorities. Having a great job and a perfect little family there is simply not enough time to give Deadlock the attention and time it deserves.

So it is time to say a big thank you to all the people I met during that time and to all those friends that will always be part of my life. Deadlock to me always was so much more than just music, it was all about a strong message, a lifestyle and being on the road and party with friends, but times are changing and so I will search for new ways to give my thoughts and emotions a voice.

It was a great time to be on the road with best friends, sharing so many funny moments we will laugh about for the rest of our lifes (Tobi and Gert know what I talk about), having a musical genius that gave my lyrics the base (thanx for that Sebastian), having a beautiful voice on my side, that became more and more to the Deadlock trademark (Thanx Sabine). And thanks to all the people that worked for or with us troughout those years.

All the best to the new Deadlock team. I will never forget those years.
