Lake of Tears posts video clip

Metalnews Power of
LAKE OF TEARS release „House Of The Setting Sun“ video clip!

Back from their tour through China, Swedish melancholic metalllers LAKE OF TEARS present a new video clip for the song “House Of the Setting Sun” (taken from their latest album “Illwill”). The clip contains live footage from the tour.

Here are some personal comments and news from the band:

At the beginning of the year we embarked on an adventure to the great country of China. This was our first visit and we did not know what to expect at all. Somewhat to our surprise the four shows we did turned out to be quite succesful, with many and enthusiastic people attending. The video clip for House of the Setting Sun is made up from footage from all four shows. Enjoy.
Lake of Tears will take part in some of the shows for the Metal Fest 2012. For the first time ever we will come to Croatia, which is something we have been wanting to do for quite some time now. Many great bands will perform, including Kreator, Wasp and Triptykon (to share the stage with Tom Warrior really is something to write home about!).
OST Fest
For the fourth time Lake of Tears will perform in the Romanian capital of Bucharest. We view Bucharest as one of our home towns in this godforsaken world, and have many nice memories from the previous visits playing the Arenale Romane or Agronomia Hall. To be on the same bill as Motörhead and Wasp is nothing short of...awesome.

New Crystal Viper album April 27

Metalnews Power of
CRYSTAL VIPER: guest appearances on the new album “Crimen Excepta” (release April 27th)

CRYSTAL VIPER will release their new album titled "Crimen Excepta" on April 27 (in Europe) and April 24 (in United States). The concept effort about holy inquisition, black magic and witches, where fiction is mixed with historical facts, has been produced by Bart Gabriel (SACRED STEEL, JACK STARR'S BURNING STARR) and recorded with sound engineer Mariusz Pietka (MORTICIAN, LONEWOLF), is the heaviest and most dark album CRYSTAL VIPER ever did. There will be two special guests on "Crimen Excepta": David Bower, vocalist of HELL appear in the title track, while VADER mainman Peter will be heard in the cover version of the classic VADER song "Tyrani Piekiel", which will be available as the bonus track on the first, limited edition of the album. So most probably CRYSTAL VIPER is the first ever Heavy Metal band, which re-arranged and recorded Death Metal cover song.

"We already announced that fans should expect the unexpected. The new album is different than everything CRYSTAL VIPER did in the past. Of course it's still traditonal Metal, and it's still CRYSTAL VIPER - but this time, everything was different, starting from the compositions, through our attitude and inspirations, up to equipment we used and the recording session itself" says CRYSTAL VIPER frontwoman Marta Gabriel. "It was amazing to have Peter in the studio, we all are huge fans of VADER, and I think he was also amazed when he heard how our voices sound together in this Heavy Metal version of "Tyrani Piekiel". And when you will hear the lines of William The Judge recorded by David of HELL, you will have jaw on the floor. We had." she adds.

New Katana album in May

Metalnews Power of
Tobias Carlsson (guitar/ songwriter) sent us an update about KATANA's new album 'Storms of war' to be released in May on Listenable records.
" It was once again recorded, mixed and mastered at Sonic Train Studios by King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque.
We were very focused and determined right from the beginning to create a sound that no one had heard on an album since the 80s. To accomplish this, we and Andy listened alot to albums produced by Martin Birch when mixing and setting the sound. Mostly Rainbow, Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath, Killers by Iron Maiden and Assault Attack by MSG. It became almost our motto in the studio to ask "How would Martin have done it?" whenever we had doubts about something.
The songs are mostly completely new, mixed in with some very old ideas and stuff that weren't finished in time for the last recording. "

" The band has been around for nearly ten years now, and for the first album we had that long to write the material. This time, most of the songs were written and rehearsed over a period of a couple of months. This has been a challenge, but a positive one that has forced our song writing to its best, and beyond.

We have broken new ground with this album and played around with things that we have never done before, thus widening the range of what we are capable of musically. But at the same time, we feel that we have come a long way in defining a uniqe style and sound for KATANA. I would say the album is as diverse as the first one musically, yet more uniform."

" The Japanese influences are there, especially in the epic song about the great Mongolian emperor Kubilai Khan who twice tried to invade Japan, and failed miserably both times. It is a grand story of Japanese history and mythology. But we are not limited by the Japanese influences and there are songs on this album that explore both other mythological subjects as well as themes taken from popular culture and everyday life."
Tobias confirmed that musically, a fan of early 80s heavy metal will feel at home in this album as much as the previous one, and the influences are still very much early Saxon, early Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rainbow, Grim Reaper, Manowar and so on. But more than anything, this album represents 100% KATANA.

Season of Mist signs Inquisition

Metalnews Power of
Black metal powerhouse INQUISITION just inked a deal with Season of Mist! The Americans' sixth album will be released on the Underground Activists division.
Frontman Dagon issued the following statement: "For many years INQUISITION has loyally walked upon the path of Black Metal deeply devoted to its spirituality and magic while growing and maturing our craft, yet always preserving the essence that ignited us since our beginning, always keeping us rooted in the elements that make us what we are now and who we were in the past. Time is relativity and this relativity is affected by choice and selection during our time of existence as INQUISITION. Therefore our careful choice of a new label as a means to take us further into our journey, and your journey, extending this path we walk upon into deeper dimensions and allowing us to heighten our potential will be placed in the hands of Season of Mist. At this time we are heavily devoted to the composition and arrangement of our next opus. We know what we want, we know what you expect and we look forward to 2012 being the year of creation and production of this upcoming ritual. With pride we announce this new relationship and with pride we will continue to deliver INQUISITION at its finest... Hail the cult."

Judge Smith creates a movie for your ears

Metalnews Power of
Independent composer and recording artist Judge Smith, who in 1967 co-founded with Peter Hammill the influential underground band ‘Van der Graaf Generator’, has created a movie for your ears – a new concept CD titled 'Orfeas'; a retelling of the ancient myth of Orpheus, the magical musican who travels to the Land of the Dead in search of the lost Eurydice. Since his Van der Graaf Generator days, Judge Smith has been responsible for a wide variety of music projects, including four stage-musicals (with productions at the Edinburgh Traverse, Sheffield Crucible and the Lyric, Hammersmith), opera and cantata libretti, songs for the ‘70s TV show ‘Not The Nine O’clock News’, and songs recorded by Peter Hammill and Lene Lovich. His film ‘The Brass Band’ has won several international awards. Judge Smith's music is complex in structure and often fragmented, but is always tuneful and strangely memorable, with humor never far from the surface. In the course of a twenty-year independent solo career, he has released ten CDs and DVDs.

My principal interest is in telling stories with words and music,” explains Judge. “Some of my CDs are collections of songs, the usual format for an album, although people say that my songs are unusual and idiosyncratic. However, three of my projects are in a different category. Over many years, I have developed a new way of making extended musical narratives that I call ‘Songstories’, which are more complex than song-cycles or ‘rock operas’. They are not ‘musicals’ either, since they are pretty well un-stageable, and are each intended to be being complete as an ‘audio experience’. The three Songstories are all very different. The first, ‘Curly’s Airships’, a double CD with a running time of two hours and twenty minutes, was completed in 2000 after six years full-time work, and tells the story of the 1930 R-101 Airship disaster. It is probably one the largest and most ambitious pieces of rock music ever recorded. The second, ‘The Climber’, released in 2009, in complete contrast, is performed by me with an unaccompanied Norwegian male voice choir, and a double bass. The third Songstory is ‘Orfeas’, my own interpretation of the Classical myth.”

This Songstory uses wildly contrasting styles of music to tell its story, including instrumental Rock, Mediterranean guitar music, modern classical string sextet music, classical Trance dance music and Death Metal. 'Orfeas' also features a radical, and little-known, technique for transforming recorded speech into melody. “As far as I am aware, I am the only person making work like this, and I think it would be probably fair to say that no one else does what I do,” says Judge.

“Best known for his role in the formation of Van de Graaf Generator, Judge Smith is clearly not an artist with much interest in toeing the line. 'Orfeas', a three-act 'songstory' in which Smith and a host of guest performers re-imagine the titular Greek legend as he headlines at Wembley Arena, is effectively an exercise in schizophrenic musical theatre, replete with rambling soliloquies and plot-revealing dialogue set to avant-garde chamber music, that takes in everything from Jaunty rock radio-jingles and ethereal pop.” Dom Lawson – Classic Rock Presents Prog

In recent news, on November 6, 2011 a performance of Judge Smith's 'The House That Cried' was held in Como, Italy. The show also took place on November 20, 2011 in Chiasso, Switzerland.

Fomento posts album preview

Metalnews Power of
"To Persevere Is Diabolical", the new full-length album by Italian metallers Fomento, will be released on March 12, 2012 via Coroner Records.

Here is a statement about the album from frontman Marco Krasinski:
"The new album is entitled "To Persevere Is Diabolical" because we wanted it to be a continuation and evolution of the previous record. For this reason the artwork also incorporates the theme of Cerberus that on "Either Caesars Or Nothing" was only hinted at and now it's the main concept.

The first record was about all the mistakes that the modern man does so well, if to err is human, to persevere in error is diabolical.

Unlike the first album, which was mostly written by me, this new one was born as a band project, trying to let all band members music tastes and background will flow in each song. There is a new black and especially death metal vein that pervades the album that before was not so obvious and that added some evil stuffs to what we already did."

Compos Mentis is still alive

Metalnews Power of
It has been a while since our last update, and it is time for you to know what is going on in the CM camp. Shortly after the release of Our Kingdom of Decay half of the members lost the drive and decided to pull out of the band. One of the reasons was the fact that we were all getting increasingly busy with work, families, and other bands (Ken for his part plays in Crocell and Illdisposed while Rune plays the bass in Kiss Me Scarlett).

What was probably equally important, however, was that our own expectations for “Our Kingdom of Decay” were not exactly fulfilled when it came out. We had been working intensely on that album for a long time and put a lot of energy and money into it, and we were all quite worn out when the album was finally released. We were, and still are, really proud of that album but we did not put the necessary effort into promoting it and the release left us in some kind of void.

Therefore the last two years have been rather dull and non-productive for Compos Mentis. And last summer it peaked when Ken, Claus and Rune took the final decision of parting ways with the band. Somewhat depressing, but we're all still best friends nonetheless.

Right now the status is that we are not searching for replacements, and we are most likely not releasing anything within the next year. But since last summer the rest of us - the three original and founding members - have been trying out different ideas in the rehearsal room. Maybe we will try to find back to the roots or maybe we will redefine the sound of Compos Mentis. Whatever the case, we do have a handful of good ol' CM-songs lying around that we will make available in some form and format at some point.

We are not quite sure what the future brings, but we do know that Compos Mentis is still alive!

Massacre Records signs 69 Chambers

Metalnews Power of
69 CHAMBERS like to call their music a minefield of contradictions, combining brutality with pop sensibility in an array of in-your-face rock and metal songs.
With their upcoming yet untitled masterpiece, 69 CHAMBERS are more than ready to take over the world’s rock and metal audiences. In the band’s own words, the new songs are more mature, sometimes harder, and playfully incorporate different stylistic influences.

The immediate success of their debut album "War On The Inside" allowed the band to play live highlights such as Hellfest Open Air in France and the renowned MFVF Festival in Belgium, and survive several line-up changes up to the recent departure of bassist Maddy Madarasz in late 2011.

Now stronger than ever, the band is back to a three-piece formation including guitar legend Tommy Vetterli and world-class drummer Diego Rapacchietti, while Nina is taking over the bass duties.

69 CHAMBERS are:
Nina Treml - Bass, Vocals
Tommy Vetterli - Guitar
Diego Rapacchietti - Drums

With no orchesters to enhancetheir sound, Peavy, Victor & André are left to themselves to prove they still are one of the best metal acts around. And they effortlessly accomplish it.
