Malevolence reveals album details

Metalnews Power of
Portuguese extreme progressive metallers MALEVOLENCE have set "Antithetical" as the title of their forthcoming third album. The main theme of the CD illustrates a razor-sharp concept inspired from Ancient Greek Etymology (1580s, from Gk. Antithetikos) that reflects the diametrical opposition to a number of propositions consisting in the revelation of a divergent thought. Pertaining to "Antithetical", the Anti (against) + Thesis (position), as a figure of speech (mainly used by the authors of the Baroque period; style of the epoch known as the art of conflict) acknowledge opposition towards the relative thesis expressed.

Commented MALEVOLENCE singer/guitarist/songwriter Carlos Cariano:
"'Antithetical' is loaded with intoxicatingly corrosive contrasts whilst the
album represents pure rebellion, a pure nonconformist extension towards the
current situation of the globe, an upheaval towards the current language that
has no force of expression and no meaning, due to the predictability of words and counterfeit actions that have become commonplace worldwide. Inner strength and living values nowadays are negatively base underneath relative truths and we are expressing ourselves precisely antithetically whilst insisting on critical thinking."

A press release states: "Music and lyrics are far beyond the average practice
and 'Antithetical' is a very unnatural progressive slab of extreme sonic
amalgamation creating parallelisms to simplify extremes whilst apprehending both the positive and the negative perspectives of existence, in order to erect
with the synthesis that transcends both. As hope is antithetical to despair, the contrasts established within the album serve in effect to give tension to the broad-spectrum body of work consisting of seven songs.

"'Antithetical' includes the most epic material (longest song clocking at 9:27),
plus the heaviest proportional songwriting ever accomplished on the eighteenth
year of existence of the collective.

"Exploring experimental yet instrumental mind bending extreme metal structures, the album is a pure heavy mammoth demonstration on extreme progressive metal territory."

LePond special guest on Ashenveil

Metalnews Power of
ASHENVEIL, the new "ambitious" female-fronted metal band out of New Jersey
featuring OPERATIKA drummer Yuri Liakhovitch, has tapped Mike LePond of SYMPHONY X to lay down the bass tracks on ASHENVEIL's upcoming debut album, "Black Of Light", to be released this summer.

Described by LePond as "heavy metal-sounding BLACKMORE'S NIGHT," ASHENVEIL was formed in the summer of 2009 when a group of friends met up for a jamming session. They clicked and the chemistry between the players was obvious to all. At that point, the songwriting process began and the direction of the band was musically defined and established.

Eager for great things to happen, after a series of extensive rehearsals, the
band — under its former name, TRACE OF EMPTINESS — performed several shows locally to get their foot in the door, gain exposure and start building
the fan base.

However, it wasn’t until singer and songwriter Christine Greenwood joined in
March 2010 to take over the vocal duties that the band was able to maximize its potential and reach the point where "only sky was the limit." With Christine's unique voice handling operatic soprano or alto singing styles, modified and tailored for each individual song, the band went on to record its first demo that was completed by the end of April 2010.

After a series of lineup changes, Rich Fischer on the guitar joined the band in
2011 and brought much-needed technicality and versatility to complete the band’s unique and multidimensional sound.

ASHENVEIL is preparing to film a promotional video for one of the songs on the
forthcoming CD.

More "Cover 2 Cover" details

Metalnews Power of
Due on May 22 via Radiant Records, "Cover 2 Cover" is the new CD from Neal
Morse, Mike Portnoy and Randy George. Together, this group of musicians
hand-picked these classic cover songs to complete the second such CD in the
bands extensive catalog. This widely diverse selection of songs is sure to capture the essence of the age of music that has impacted these accomplished musicians!

"One of the first things myself, Neal and Randy usually start talking about when we gather for one of Neal's solo albums is what we can cover should we have some leftover time at the end of the session. And now over the course of both CDs, we have covered 28 songs!" says Portnoy. "Ranging from the obscure to the classics. Like the first 'Cover To Cover', most of the song choices on this CD are rooted in the '70s and are songs/bands we grew up with."

With nine brand new songs along with five previously recorded ones, Morse,
Portnoy and George once again create an album of songs that is sure to be
enjoyed for years to come.

Morse is one of the leading figures in progressive rock, whose notoriety follows his co-founding of the seminal band, SPOCK'S BEARD in 1995, recordings as a solo artist, and contributions to the super-group TRANSATLANTIC.

Portnoy is one of the most popular and respected drummers in both metal and
rock, and an accomplished writer and producer. He is the recipient of
numerous industry accolades, including 26 Modern Drummer awards, Revolver
magazine's Golden God award for "Best Drummer" and Drum magazine's "Drummer Of The Year". He rose to prominence as the leader, drummer, producer, and co-writer for metal/prog juggernaut DREAM THEATER, before
moving on in 2010. That same year, he worked on AVENGED SEVENFOLD's #1 album "Nightmare" and their subsequent tour.

New Stormcrow album out now

Metalnews Power of
Surpassing the human being, resisting to the instinct dissolution, now that the world finds in the order its idiot consolation, now that the ability to regress as specie seems to be what actually distinguishes us from the other livings. To be worms has never been so easy as at this time. Which musical genre better than Black Metal could successfully face these dramatic and crucial humanity themes? Which world if not the one of the highest peaks and glaciers could supply the purest artistic and philosophic inspirations capable to awake the asleep consciousness of the most?

The necessary condition to enter in this world, which is the leitmotiv of the whole album “DISPOSITION TO TYRANNY” (2012), is to definitively forget the concepts of good and evil, to feel the Will as the drawing power of the existence.

As the attentive listener will catch in the remarkable lyrics of the album, the disposition to Tyranny is far from being a political concept, but It has to do with the will of every fragment of the nature that struggles and pretends its place into the universe.

After their previous work “WOUNDED SKIES” (2006 Dwell Records LA California), the Stormcrow quintet, formed by Zedar (Bass Guitar), Goraath (Drums, Voice, Keyboards), Narchost (Lead Guitar), Vastis (Voice) and Astaroth (Rhythmic Guitars), presents “DISPOSITION TO TYRANNY”, an album that benefits from a varied songwriting but solidly laced to the best violence and melancholy canons that the genre could offer, something that leaves room to the characterizing of each song even keeping at highest level the psychophysical involving of the listener.

The sensation of musical and conceptual deepness, the attention to graphic details and to stylistic production that you can feel meeting with the album “DISPOSITION TO TYRANNY”, are supported by a great histrionic attitude to live performances.

Shining, Dark Funeral, Hate, Enthroned, Vader, Mortuary Drape, Negura Bunget, are just some of the bands with which Stormcrow had shared the stage in years of shows through Europe like Belgium, Germany, France and Slovenia engaged in tours, gigs and festivals of the calibre of Metal Camp, to which the band took part in 2009, Filtrhock Festival and others.

Stormcrow will play with GORGOROTH on Friday May 11th at Rock N’Roll, Romagnano (ITALY)!

Mark Boals making guest appearance

Metalnews Power of
Guitarist Adrian Galysh, whose previous releases have been mainly instrumental
fare, has enlisted former YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ROYAL HUNT and ULI JON ROTH singer Mark Boals to contribute vocals to Adrian's new album. While the CD is currently in pre-production, listeners can still expect Galysh's tasteful guitar work, with hard rock and world music influences, to be heard throughout.

Described as "a virtuoso of modern electric and acoustic guitar techniques" by
20th Century Guitar magazine, Galysh has been dazzling southern California
audiences for over a decade, whether he's backed by his band or as sideman for
ex-SCORPIONS guitar legend Uli Jon Roth.

Boals, whose career started with stints in SAVOY BROWN and TED NUGENT, is noted most for his vocal work with neoclassical guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen, appearing on four studio albums, including the hard rock classic "Trilogy".

Galysh and Boals have worked together before, performing in Uli Jon Roth's band during a 2011 tour. Galysh says of the opportunity to write and record with
Boals, "Mark Boals is one of my all-time favorite singers. I clearly remember
first hearing him on Yngwie's 'Trilogy' album, and being blown away by how
strong and unique his voice was.

I've been fortunate to have been able to perform with both my favorite guitarist, Uli Jon Roth, as well as favorite vocalist, Mark Boals, and am thrilled to have him on my new record."

Galysh's new album, tentatively titled "Tone Poet", is expected to be released
in the summer.

Nile reveals cover artwork

Metalnews Power of
Ancient Egypt-themed Death Metal act NILE have just revealed the cover artwork of their upcoming album: ‘’At The Gate Of Sethu’’
Artwork was handled this time by a true genius of darkened visuals, Seth Siro Anton (Soilwork, Paradise Lost, SepticFlesh).

Band mastermind Karl Sanders commented:
“Seth Siro Anton has designed the cover. I have been a fan of SEPTIC FLESH a long time, and as Seth expressed interest,  I knew that he would deliver a great job.
I would say his work is easily the best we've ever had. He has captured the darker side of the sound of NILE and reflected the music and ideas, the heart and soul of NILE are forming. Seth is a very talented man and understands exactly who we are. "

Seth Siro Anton states:
“It is no secret that I admire the powerful stylistic lines of the magical symbols that still transmit the aura of ancient Egypt, preserving in time the ancient mysteries.
Also, I am fascinated from the final frozen moment of the flesh captured in an eternal sleeping stasis, at the completion of the mummification process.
So, with a great pleasure I accepted the challenge, to visualize the new masterpiece of Nile ‘’At the gate of Sethu’’.

Blodhemn release their new album Holmengraa the 18th of May in Europe. Today Blodhemn gives you a sneak peek to the new album; check out the album info and tracklist below! You can now pre-order “Holmengraa” at

With the release of “Holmengraa”, Blodhemn delivers a phenomenally strong debut album. It continues the tradition of great Norwegian Black Metal bands like Immortal, Enslaved and Gorgoroth, displaying a level of song- and riff writing not seen on many debut albums. The sound is organic, yet distinct and aggressive. It is not safe. It is black metal like it should be.

For the next album, Invisus went back to his roots...
Far out on the western coast of Norway, you’ll find a dark and deserted island, with an antiquated lighthouse, by the name of Holmengraa. Weatherbeaten by the crushing waves of the North Sea, the island is a stormy center of grimness, fear and mysticism.

Inspired by this, Invisus composed Blodhemn's debut album. “Holmengraa” was recorded in November-December 2011 at Conclave and Earshot Studios, Bergen. It is an album consistent with old school black metal, but it also contains a wide range of diversity, originality and Blodhemn's very own, distinctive sound.

Purified in Blood releasing new single

Metalnews Power of
Purified in Blood release their new album ”Flight Of A Dying Sun” the 15th of June in Europe. Today they release their powerful new single ”Mot Grav”! Read more about Purified in Blood’s new album and check out the tracklist below.

Listen to “Mot Grav” HERE!

”This is the missing link between «Reaper of Souls» and «Under Black Skies»”, says singer Hallgeir S. Enoksen. Their first album is known for its rawness and intensity. «Reaper of Souls» was also recorded by Jacob Bredahl back in 2006 and they always talked about recording with him again after that. Now it was time. The second album has more of an organic sound. «Flight Of A Dying Sun» is the two combined in one hell of an album.

This time around the bands second singer Glenn Reaper is out and Hallgeir faced a new challenge being one vocalist. A challenge he has been nailing the past one and a half year with no problems what so ever. His voice range has developed a lot the past year singing alone and he takes on the task with no remorse, no repent.

Glenn Reaper is still doing a guest appearance on the power anthem Iron Hands. Alongside with Glenn, Erlend Hjelvik from the brother band Kvelertak appears on the album’s first single and only Norwegian song; Mot Grav. Other guest appearances on the album are Kjetil Møster (Datarock, Ultralyd, Møster) on saxophone, Ådne Sæverud on organ and Jens Borge (Skadne Krek) on double bass. Last but certainly not least they have Siberian throat singer Albert Kuvezin on board to start the whole album with his voice of war.

Metalnews Power of
Tragedy Has Come album cover

Theory tells that tragedy is a form of drama based on human suffering that invokes in its audience an accompanying catharsis or pleasure in listening. MISERATION's newest album "Tragedy Has Spoken" follows this path musically and lyrically.

The theme of the third album of these Scandinavians can be described as sum of the major tragedies of mankind's history. Lyrics for "Tragedy Has Spoken" have been written by Pär Johansson (Satariel, Torchbearer, The Few Against Many) and band's lead singer ChristianÄlvestam (also in Solution.45, Torchbearer, ex-Scar Symmetry), and address the diversity of tragedies. Some of which have taken the guise of accidents or natural disasters, while others were carried out with human hands and intent. Behind all this there is to find an imaginary architect, a fictive entity "something powerful, aware, far above the manmade concepts of good or evil: the nature of tragedy itself."

Musically MISERATION expand their view on forward-thinking, vicious Death Metal by integrating new instruments to the mix. There still is to find what caused the quality and sustainability of "Your Demons, Their Angels" (2008) and "The Mirroring Shadow" (2009), but in 2012 there is more than technical, intricate Death Metal with a good dose of melody. "Tragedy Has Spoken" was recorded using 8-string guitars, which gives the wall of distortion a certain distinctive flair. In addition MISERATION are incorporating folk instruments such as the Indian harp Esraj, the Persian hammered dulcimer Santur, sawblade, organ, mandolin and piano, as well as Mongolian throatsinging. Music and lyrics are globally and far beyond standard practice, so there is a lot to discover!

The cover artwork for "Tragedy Has Spoken" has been created by well-reputed artist Pär Olofsson (Immortal, Abysmal Dawn, Immolation, The Faceless).

A first track taken from the new album will be revealed on
May 9th!

"Tragedy Has Spoken" is set to be released on the following dates:
June 29th, 2012 (D/ AT/ CH + Digital)
July 2nd, 2012 (Europe)
July 3rd, 2012 (North America)
July 4th, 2012 (Scandinavia)

Hanover based CRIPPER proves that varied Thrash Metal does not need lots of frills, since the band's formation in 2005. Since then, the sympathetic-chaotic bunch cut their way through the European Metal scene. With a mix of old school and modern elements, technical skill and a good portion of groove, the quintet with front-elk Britta Görtz has quickly gained a reputation as a playful and rousing live band, inspired by their sweaty shows and enthralling live songs.
Press and media feedback on all three releases so far (Killer Escort Service, 2006; Freak Inside, 2007; Devil Reveals, 2009) are euphoric.

From 2006 to 2009, CRIPPER plays over 130 shows, including many major festivals such as Metalcamp ‘06 / ’07 / ‘08, Way Of Darkness ’08, Wacken Rocks Seaside & South ‘09, Queens Of Metal ’07, Rock Harz ‘09, Rockmania ’08, Winterbreath ‘08.

In October 2009, singer Britta Görtz takes part in the 1st international congress "Heavy Metal and Gender” at the "Hochschule für Musik und Tanz" in Cologne. Side by side with Doro Pesch, Angela Gossow and Sabina Classen, this event closes with a live show with Doro and Holy Moses.

Spring 2010 starts hot: CRIPPER supports Overkill on their Killfest-Tour and plays 19 shows across 9 European countries. Each show is a huge success and pushes the band and its members Britta Görtz, Christian Bröhenhorst, Jonathan Stenger, Dennis Weber and Bastian Helwig forward to gain a bit more of the world's ground.

In the beginning of 2011 it's time to check out the Caribbean to play the biggest floating metal festival ever: 70,000 Tons Of Metal. One thing is for sure: when CRIPPER is done, they are not the only ones sweating. On the cruise, CRIPPER is accompanied by a film crew for "24 Stunden Report" of the TV Channel Sat.1. The 45 min. show reaches thousands and introduces the band to a broad audience.

The festival season 2011 is traveled from north to south. CRIPPER plays Bang Your Head, Summer Breeze, Rock Harz, Eindhoven Metal Meeting NL, Metalfest CH, Eisenwahn and many other German and European festivals.

The third studio album "Antagonist" will be released worldwide on June 22nd 2012 on SAOL / H’Art / Zebralution, including 12 songs, with which CRIPPER shows both its old-school as well as its modern side. From deathy songs like "Animal of Prey," a hell lot of rock 'n roll in "Clean", a chunk of hate "General Routine" or the snappy opener "New Shadow" - CRIPPER has become more mature and shows that with increasing enthusiasm.

The band tells about the “Resting Place Of Illusion” album: “It’s our first album, our way to make music. We didn’t want to match any cliché, we just tried many approaches to composition and finally decided for something different from the computer-projected / computer-played productions we are used to nowadays. We consider the progressive element the key for the expressive pursuit, not the technical one. Anyway the listeners will surely recognize references to those genres and musicians that made our passion grow, we did that as a tribute to them. Enslaved signs with Nuclear Blast

Metalnews Power of
Nuclear Blast proudly announce the worldwide signing of the Norwegian Extreme-Metal-Band ENSLAVED.

After publishing the latest two albums "Vertebrae" (2008) and "Axioma Ethica Odini" (2010) via Nuclear Blast USA in North America, the band currently signed a worldwide contract.

The Band commented:
“We’re very, very (yes, very) pleased and proud to sign this deal with Nuclear Blast worldwide. We’ve already worked with Nuclear Blast US through our two latest albums; and our personal friendships with NB guys and gals on both sides of the Atlantic are even older. There’s no drama – we take great pride in the fact that there seldom is with us – it is simply a matter of one contract ending, and us going for what seems to be our best option at this point in time and space. This time the best choice for Enslaved is changing things up somewhat.  We’re excited to see what the mixture of passion and professionalism at Nuclear Blast can do with the Enslaved name in the years to come. There is no doubt that the level of ambition, the experience and seriousness about what we do, form perfect common ground for Enslaved and Nuclear Blast. We’re in the process of making a new album that will initiate our new partnership, watch out for the approaching wave of news about that. For now, let’s just say that the album will be an absolute (Nuclear) blast!”

Gerardo Martínez, Label Manager of Nuclear Blast USA, comments:
“Enslaved is one of the most amazing bands to ever come from Norway. We’ve had the pleasure of working with them on their last two albums in North America, and from this day forth worldwide.
Looking forward their new masterpiece to be unleashed to the masses later in the year!”

The new album will be released this fall.
