"I'm happy to say that all the music for [the new FATES WARNING album] is now written (finally!). Still some lyrics to do, but we're close. Looking forward to sharing this with you in 2013."

FATES WARNING tapped Mike Portnoy (ADRENALINE MOB, TRANSATLANTIC, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) to sit behind the kit for their first-ever visit to South America as special guests for QUEENSRŸCHE on April 14, 2012 at HSBC Brasil in São Paulo, Brazil.

The "Parallels" lineup of FATES WARNING played a number of shows in 2010 in
support of the released special edition of the album, which was made available through Metal Blade Records. In addition to remastered audio, there is a second audio disc of live and demo material. The package also includes a DVD with nearly three hours of material, including a complete live show from the 1992 "Parallels" tour and a documentary on the making of "Parallels" which includes live, studio, and current day interview footage with all the band members, Terry Brown (producer) and Brian Slagel (CEO of Metal Blade Records).

Queensrÿche issues statement

Metalnews Power of
QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Michael Wilton has released the following statement:

"We in QUEENSRŸCHE want to send our thoughts and prayers out to our old friend Randy Gane in light of the heart attack he suffered the other night. He will always be a part of the extended QUEENSRŸCHE family and we want to wish him a speedy recovery. We ask all our fans to keep him and his family in your thoughts as we celebrate this holiday season. Look forward to a happy, healthy and musical 2013."

Gane, who plays keyboards for Geoff Tate's newly assembled version of QUEENSRŸCHE, suffered a heart attack Wednesday night (December 26), according to a posting on Geoff's Facebook page. The singer has asked fans to "please send [their] prayers and positive thoughts to [his] good friend."

Gane, who turned 53 on November 30, was a co-founder of Tate's pre-QUEENSRŸCHE band MYTH. He has also played with the alternative band CANDLEBOX and appeared on the group's 1993 debut, which sold four million copies and featured the hits "You" and "Far Behind".

In a recent interview, Tate stated: "Randy's played on quite a few QUEENSRŸCHE records over the years and written on QUEENSRŸCHE records over the years, and toured with us as well."

He added in a separate interview: "Randy Gane and I have been musical partners for more than 30 years. We have written many songs together and have similar musical tastes."

Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE also includes legendary bassist Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, WHITESNAKE, DIO), drummer Bobby Blotzer (RATT) and guitarist Kelly Gray (MYTH).

Geoff Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE will hit the road next year to celebrate the 25th
anniversary of the group's epic 1988 release, "Operation: Mindcrime".

Arjen Lucassen guest on new Avantasia album

Metalnews Power of
AYREON mastermind Arjen Lucassen (also ex-BODINE, VENGEANCE) has been confirmed as one of the guest musicians who will appear on "The Mystery Of Time", the new album from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project. Also scheduled to make appearances on the CD are Michael Kiske (UNISONIC, HELLOWEEN), SAXON frontman Biff Byford, former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick and drummer Russell Gilbrook of URIAH HEEP.

Commented Sammet: "To me, he used to be what John D. Rockerduck is to Scrooge McDuck: an adamant longtime rival; in our case, when it comes to producing rock operas. Well, if you can't beat your enemy, make him your ally! And so I opened the door and literally invited pestilence into my world, ha!

"Seriously, the truth is that the 'pestilence' I'm talking about is really one of the nicest, coolest and loveliest plagues I've ever come to know, an ambitious artist through and through and a real great guitar player. So, having just come back from a shopping tour in 2912 — where apparently he found himself a brand new pair of bad-ass pants and boots — he went into the studio to record some additional lead guitar for the forthcoming AVANTASIA album, 'The Mystery Of Time': AYREON mastermind Arjen Anthony Lucassen!"

Bruce previously appeared on AVANTASIA's "The Wicked Symphony" and "Angel Of Babylon" CDs and Tobias contributed guest vocals to Bruce's last solo release, "BK3".

The new AVANTASIA CD is being recorded in part at VOX Klangstudio in Bendestorf, Germany with producer Sascha Paeth (KAMELOT, EDGUY, EPICA, RHAPSODY).

Immediately after the release of "The Mystery Of Time", a metal opera based on a story written by Sammet, the band will embark on a full-fledged indoor tour, during which the band and special guests will bring the epic undertaking to the stage.

Since the performances will embrace all the different eras and history of AVANTASIA, these shows will feature an extended playing time and the entire evening will be dedicated to AVANTASIA with no support acts.

Tobias originally wanted to put AVANTASIA to rest after the release of the "The Flying Opera - Around The World In 20 Days" concert DVD in April 2011, but he has since had a change of heart. He explains, "Even though I love to record and tour with EDGUY, I didn't foresee how much I need AVANTASIA when I decided to finish this chapter of my life in 2011. I didn't know if there would be another AVANTASIA album one day, but I didn‘t feel like doing it. After the worldwide success of the latest studio releases, an arena world tour that was sold out pretty much everywhere, collaborations with childhood heroes like Alice Cooper, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Eric Singer of KISS, etc. I 'knew' that I had said everything I could possibly say in the name of AVANTASIA. But that's not what AVANTASIA is all about. I wanna create more great music, I wanna create more fantasy worlds, the bigger and the more epic, the better. And listening to the material that I have created for this forthcoming chapter in the history of AVANTASIA, I know there is no way I am not going to do it! I have got the feeling and the certainty that this is absolutely meant to happen and to be!"

New Visions of Atlantis album almost done

Metalnews Power of
Austrian symphonic metallers VISIONS OF ATLANTIS have issued the following

"The year 2012 slowly draws to a close and we are very happy that our upcoming album, 'Ethera', is finally also very very close to be finished! Almost one year of writing and another year of recording, improving, re-recording and more will soon turn into our most ambitious album to date! So keep an eye on our [Facebook] page as the release dates, artwork, brand new band pictures and more are on their way! The next three months promise a lot to be found here at first hand!!"

VISIONS OF ATLANTIS' fifth album, "Ethera", is scheduled for an early 2013 release via Napalm Records.

Regarding the new album title, VISIONS OF ATLANTIS said, "'Ethera' is a word mix out of 'ether' as the quintessence of this band, the energy between the five band members, the fifth album and 'era,' leading VISIONS OF ATLANTIS to some new and interesting musical and lyrical shores while still remaining typically VISIONS OF ATLANTIS!"

Fabio D'Amore (SERENITY) and Ivan Moni Bidin, who is also a master at the mixing desk, produced this latest work.

VISIONS OF ATLANTIS' "Maria Magdelena" EP was released in October 2011.

Mike Scaccia passed away

Metalnews Power of
Mike Scaccia, the guitarist for Ministry and Rigor Mortis, died on Saturday night at the age of 47. Scaccia was performing onstage at the Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas, as part of a 50th birthday celebration for Rigor Mortis singer Bruce Corbitt, when he collapsed. Shortly afterwards, he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner listed the cause of death as a sudden heart attack brought on by heart disease, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports. Earlier accounts, including one from the rock blog, attributed the collapse to a seizure and noted that Scaccia had reportedly asked for the strobe lights in the club to be turned off during the performance moments before he fell.

Scaccia was born in Babylon, New York, on July 14th, 1965, and formed thrash metallists Rigor Mortis in 1983. Six years later, the guitarist was invited by Al Jourgensen to join Ministry. The first full-length Ministry studio recording to feature Scaccia was the group's most commercially successful release, 1992's Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs, which spawned such industrial metal classics as "N.W.O." and "Jesus Built My Hotrod," and was supported by an appearance on Lollapalooza that same year.

Additionally, Scaccia appeared on recordings by a host of Ministry offshoot bands, including the Revolting Cocks, Lard, and Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters. The most recent Ministry album that Scaccia appeared on was this year's Relapse.

On Corbitt's Facebook page, the singer posted the following statement shortly after Scaccia's passing: "My brother is gone! The only reason I am who I am is because of this man. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't even be in a band. RIP Mike Scaccia! The greatest guitar player I ever knew!"

Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen later posted a statement on the band's Facebook page:
"I just lost my lil' brother and my best friend – the 13th Planet compound is devastated, completely in shock and shattered," the note reads, in part. "Mikey was not only the best guitar player in the history of music, but he was a close, close, close part of our family – and I just lost a huge chunk of my heart today. Our lives are forever changed. Life without Mikey is like orange juice without pulp – kind of bland. I have no words to express what this guy meant to me, my family, my career. . . . Everything!"

Krokus play dirty

Metalnews Power of

Krokus have announced that their next album will be called “Dirty Dynamite” and will be released on March 5th (2013) via The End Records. The track-list of “Dirty Dynamite” shall be:

01.  Hallelujah Rock’n’Roll
02.  Go Baby Go
03.  Rattlesnake Rumble
04.  Dirty Dynamite
05.  Let The Good Times Roll
06.  Help
07.  Better Than Sex
08.  Dög Song
09.  Yellow Mary
10.  Bailout Blues
11.  Live Ma Life
12.  Hardrocking Man

For almost 40 years now, Krokus has stood for high-quality, honest-to-goodness, hand-made power rock. No other Swiss rock band sells albums and its back catalogue worldwide like Krokus. The band has already sold over 14 million records, toured the world, and received gold and platinum discs in the USA and Canada. The milestones in their rock career are dotted around the world: from Australia and the USA to Mexico, Russia, Japan, and China.

But it hasn't all been one long high: death, sickness, and internal strife have pushed the band to the brink of collapse. The story of Krokus is like no other. Dotted with highs and lows, sell-out stadium concerts and sweaty club gigs, these five musketeers of rock have outlasted trends and survived treacherous US managers, tough splits, bad deals, shady lawyers, drugs, awful fast food, endless bus trips, disco, grunge, grotesque record companies, and double-dealing advisors.

Today they are back in their classic line-up plus Mandy Meyer and are stronger than ever on their new album, DIRTY DYNAMITE. The band spent a whole two years working on the new album under the watchful eye of Chris Von Rohr. 'We didn't spend all that time on golf courses or tennis courts. No, we just wanted to make our best album yet, the magnum opus of the new Krokus era," says the hit producer. Guitarist Mark Kohler has this to add: 'This is not just another Krokus album. I think we have definitely passed another rock milestone with this record.'

To reach this goal, no expense was spared; the band booked into the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. Krokus went back to their roots, back to where it all began with the Stones, the Beatles, the Free, the Who, and the Bluesbreakers; back to where the band headlined concerts in the Hammersmith Odeon, celebrating their first international success. 'The atmosphere there is very special, and we wanted to make the most of that,' says singer Marc Storace. Guitarist Fernando von Arb is quick to add: 'With Dirty Dynamite, we have recorded the urgently needed, dirty kind of rock that no one plays in this country.'

Christopher Amott resurrects Armageddon Project

Metalnews Power of
Former ARCH ENEMY guitarist Christopher Amott, who currently resides in Lansdale, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after marrying an American woman, is writing material for a new album from his ARMAGEDDON project. He says: "I've got a brand new band together and some kick-ass material that I can't wait to unleash on the world.

"To be honest, I haven't been this excited about working on an album in about ten-plus years.

"This one's gonna be 100% metal with loads of shred-guitar and intricate compositions.

"I am writing the music together with Matthew Wicklund (GOD FORBID, WARREL DANE, HIMSA), who is the second guitarist in the band. The hooks and melodies we have come up with are huge!! Very excited. On drums we have Van Williams (NEVERMORE). Bassist and vocalist I am not revealing yet, but I can say this much; it won't be me singing.

"I'm predicting a release for this album by summer 2013."

Amott moved to the U.S. in April 2012 and recently received his green card in the mail, enabling him to live and work in the country.

Christopher Amott played a solo concert at the Loud Park festival on October 27 at Saitama Super Arena, a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Saitama City, Japan. Backing him at the gig were Wicklund and Williams.

Amott's new solo album, "Impulses", can be purchased directly from his music store.

Amott in March issued a statement explaining that he left ARCH ENEMY to pursue his solo career. He said, "I'm gonna continue to be very active in music, working with all kinds of styles — this does not rule out metal."

ARCH ENEMY recruited American guitarist Nick Cordle (ARSIS) to replace Christopher.

Christopher Amott started his career in music in 1995 as a founding creative force and guitarist in ARCH ENEMY. In this context, he is known for his tastefully technical guitar work and memorably emotive playing style.

After garnering his early success, Christopher had the desire to express himself on a personal level in the same genre. At this time he began writing albums under the name ARMAGEDDON. Christopher wrote and recorded three albums over the next few years as ARCH ENEMY grew into an internationally recognized act, with his compositions featuring his own vocal stylings on the last album. This would be Christopher's first foray into singing and a spark of inspiration for his later musical ventures.

In 2008, Christopher began to consider his creative options as a mature musician. He began writing songs of an entirely different atmosphere, which saw his guitar playing focused less on technical ecstasy and more on a chord-based blues rock ambience as a foundation for more prominent vocal and lyrical ideas. These compositions developed into his next solo project; the album would be called "Follow Your Heart", released under his own name in 2010.

AFM Records signs Gothminister

Metalnews Power of
AFM Records is proudly announcing the signing of Norwegian Gothic Metal act GOTHMINISTER.
Band leader Bjørn Alexander Brem comments:
GOTHMINISTER is thrilled to sign with AFM Records. With this partnership and with our new concept CD album and concert film “UTOPIA” we will take things much further than we have ever done before. We have a brand new concept album coming out, consisting of both 13 brand new studio tracks and more than 1 hour 15 minutes concert horror movie film + bonus tracks!
In our concert film we have live on stage undead, witches, werewolves and giant demons grabbing our drummer by his legs and throwing him 6 meters up in the air. And we have bats with glowing eyes flying over the audience`s heads… This something people have never ever seen before.
When the world ends in 2012, a new world begins in 2013- the year of GOTHMINISTER and UTOPIA…”

The concept of UTOPIA is inspired by Bjørn Alexander Brem`s life and nightmares – the combination of being a lawyer in daytime and GOTHMINISTER at night drives him eventually insane – it becomes impossible for him to separate reality from imagination. The other GOTHMINISTER members Chris Dead (drummer), Icarus (guitars) and Turbo Natas (guitars) also take part in this nightmarish world filled with undead walkers, witches, werewolves and monsters.

Famous Underground inks deal with DOTT

Metalnews Power of
Canadian Metallic Hard Rockers FAMOUS UNDERGROUND has just inked a world-wide two album deal with German label Dust on the Tracks Records (DOTT). The debut album which is slated for April 2013, will be released through Sony (Europe), MVD (USA), RSK (UK) and Universal (Canada).
Walsh says ‘It’s great to know that our music can reach many people. We had multiple labels interested in the band, and ultimately went with DOTT due to their understanding of our music and how and where it needs to be exposed’.
Laurie-Anne states ‘Under the stable of Rock ‘n’ Growl Management and DOTT Records we feel that we have a great team to propel us forward into the New Year.’
The line-up is: Nicholas Walsh – Vocals/Guitars, Laurie-Anne Green – Bass/BG Vocals, Rick Corvese – Guitars, Darren Boyd – Guitars, Desche Sparboom – Drums
FAMOUS UNDERGROUND’s sound and music is edgy, melodic and hooky bringing a paradigm shift to the arena of rock. It’s been said, that they have created something fresh and exciting in an otherwise stagnated genre. With the conclusion that no-one has definitive comparisons, Carl Begai writer with elite hard rock/metal magazine BW&BK describes the new recording as “it’s a darker if-Metallica-were-Guns-N-Roses direction with this brand new album.
FAMOUS UNDERGROUND’s self-titled studio release produced by Nick Walsh, and mixed by Darius Szczepaniak (Sum 41, Black Crowes, Big Sugar, Sacrifice) at Rouge Valley Studio in Toronto. The new recording takes Walsh’s writing to a more defined state where the lyrics delve more into the complexities of the real world.
These musicians have independently garnered critical acclaim supporting such acts as Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Kid Rock, Black Sabbath, Billy Talent, Yngwie Malmsteen, April Wine and many other international acts.

Every year the Holiday gods try to throw us the same old boring and tired music. KRASHKARMA from Los Angeles needs the blood of the innocent and punishing power chords under their black, upside down Xmas tree! Therefore the band wants to put their latest, most brutal Holiday creation in your ear stockings! So you better watch out and you better not cry because Santa is coming to shove some “JINGLE HELL” up your a**! We trust that sounds a lot better to your ears, whatever you may think about Christmas songs. Merry KrashKristmas and happy Holidays from the band and FOCUSION Promotion & Marketing!

Listenable signs The Omega Experiment

Metalnews Power of
We're very proud to introduce prog metal mongers THE OMEGA  EXPERIMENT !. Very few of the younger bands have shown so much enthusiasm and passion for the music they enjoy listening and playing with so much professionalism and we fully support that !.
Michigan's THE OMEGA EXPERIMENT describes their sound as 'heavy guitars, euphoric synths and rich layered vocals come together to create a wall of progressive rock lushness.' and was founded by duo Dan Wieten and Ryan Aldridge.

Like their  fellow modern prog artists,  The Omega Experiment create a massive sound with home equipment and have no fear of experimentation and rule breaking.

The guitars are big and technical and layered with keyboard sounds reminiscent of Dream Theater and Queensryche. The vocals range from powerful lead lines, big harmonies and demonic screams in the vein of Devin Townsend and Mike Patton.

The band’s inspiration comes from Guitarist and Vocalist Dan addressing the last 10 years of his life, focusing on his excess and drug abuse which took him to a dark place and his determination to move onto a brighter future.

THE OMEGA EXPERIMENT has been lucky enough to receive public praise from Devin Townsend on multiple occasions, most notably on his Twitter account the night they unleashed their “Karma EP” to the masses for free on Bandcamp, saying, “Actually listening now...great great work man! Seriously great stuff Dan, I fully back it and appreciate the effort you’ve invested I wish all luck!” The EP later went on to receive over 2000 downloads. The band released their self-titled debut album was mastered by Acle Kahney (TESSERACT) and made available digitally via bandcamp, itunes  to much critical acclaim.

THE OMEGA EXPERIMENT  will see the re-release of their self titled debut album in late February in Europe and March in the U.S. on Listenable. The band is currently at work writing their next album and look forward to getting back out and touring, with a strong hope to be able to reach their fans in other countries.

Russell Allen producing new Shaman album

Metalnews Power of
Powerhouse American vocalist Russell Allen (SYMPHONY X, ADRENALINE MOB) will produce the as-yet-untitled new studio album from the Brazilian progressive/power metal band SHAMAN.

The relationship between Allen and SHAMAN began with his participation in the new SHAMAN video, "Nocturnal Human Side".

"After the positive experience that was this video filming, it became clear for
we all that we had to do more things together,"
says SHAMAN vocalist Thiago

"The idea to have Russell as our producer came naturally. Since then, we have been fun. Russell is an extremely spontaneous guy and his contribution have been a lesson of professionalism and musicality."

Ricardo Confessori - Drums
Leo Mancini - Guitar
Fernando Quesada - Bass
Thiago Bianchi - Vocals
Juninho Carelli - Keyboards

SHAMAN's fourth album, "Origins", was released in 2010.

Helstar issues statement

Metalnews Power of
Texas-based metal veterans HELSTAR have issued the following update:

"It's been a few months since we've issued an update and there are several news items we'd like to share with you HEL-raisers on what to expect in 2013!

"As many of you know, early in the new year we will set sail from Miami onboard the largest floating heavy metal festival 70000 Tons Of Metal. We are proud to have been invited and look forward to this awesome opportunity, but why stop there? Since we'll be in the area, we decided to schedule several onshore gigs in Florida as well! Our first stop is the city once described as the 'damnedest town this side of Hell,' aka Tampa, at the legendary Brass Mug on Saturday, January 26th, followed by the Metal Cruise Pre-Party (also featuring FLOTSAM AND JETSAM) at Miami's Grand Central on Sunday, January 27th. After we return from the high seas of metal, we're heading southeast of Orlando to the city of Melbourne, where we'll wrap up on Saturday, February 2nd at The County Line Saloon.

"On a more somber note, after several years of enduring a stomach-related illness, our bassist, Jerry Abarca, continues to fight an unrelenting battle to regain his health and will take an extended break from the band for the foreseeable future. We had all hoped that he would have fully recovered by now, but the reality is that he is still very ill. This was made painfully obvious to us on our recent tour of Europe when he had to be hospitalized again and missed the biggest show of the entire run. To continue in this manner would be unfair to everyone involved, Jerry, his family, our fans, and the rest of the band. And while we will all miss him onstage, it would be highly selfish for us to continue to place such stress on him and his family just to keep the status quo. As a 'family' first and foremost outfit, we are all very supportive of him putting the band aside to focus on his personal health and the welfare of his family and we wish him all the best on the road to recovery.

"To meet our upcoming performance commitments, we are happy to announce that the musician selected to fulfill the bass obligations for our upcoming shows is none other than Mike LePond of SYMPHONY X. Some of you familiar with James' [Rivera, vocals] history already know that he and Mike have previously worked together in the bands SEVEN WITCHES and DISTANT THUNDER. Mike is a close friend of ours and he currently has some down time, so we reached out to him and he gladly obliged to join for these shows. While there are many great bass players in the world, we feel there is only a handful who possess both the caliber of musicianship necessary to fill such large shoes and who also fit the mold of HELSTAR. So with that, we welcome Mr. LePond onboard with open arms and know that our fans will too!

"Thus, we will forge ahead at full throttle in 2013! Our return to the East Coast metal markets is in the works for March, with a Brooklyn, NY show confirmed for Saturday the 9th at Saint Vitus Bar, plus a couple of other gigs tentatively slated for the same weekend. A Midwest run may follow soon after, and in between all of this, the next HELSTAR album is already being crafted! More updates are yet to come!"

HELSTAR released "30 Years Of Hel", a DVD containing footage of the band's March 24, 2012 30-year-anniversary hometown show at Warehouse Live in Houston, on October 2 in North America (August 31 in Europe) via AFM Records. The DVD+2CD set includes footage of the band performing songs spanning its entire career, including material from the often-overlooked "Multiples Of Black" release. The package also features interviews with each bandmember, as well as with the entire group, conducted by "Robb's MetalWorks" and focusing specifically on this milestone.

HELSTAR released its latest album, "Glory Of Chaos", in November 2010 via
Germany's AFM Records.

Formed in Houston in the early '80s, HELSTAR cut its teeth playing backyard
parties and small club gigs. It soon became apparent that HELSTAR had much more to offer then its contemporaries. Combat Records snapped up the band and released HELSTAR's debut, "Burning Star", in 1984. Next came "Remnants of War", followed by HELSTAR's breakthrough album, "A Distant Thunder", in 1988. The success of "A Distant Thunder" ultimately set up HELSTAR's most critically acclaimed album, 1989's "Nosferatu".

Indie Recordings signs Altaar

Metalnews Power of
Indie Recordings are proud to announce the signing of Altaar and the release of their new self-titled album on the 26th of February in Europe and 22nd of February in Germany and Austria.

Altaar is an exceptional outlet with an avant-garde approach to the musical expression by attacking conventional doom metal (Corrupted, Black Sabbath, Nortt) with references stemming from the classic Psychedelic era (Les Fleur De Lys, Captain Beefheart, Pink Floyd)!

The journey began back in 2007. After the dissolution of JR Ewing, Andreas Tylden (also known from One Tail, One Head) established the solo-project Altaar. In the shadows of Vår Frelsers graveyard in Oslo, the cassette "Dødsønske" was recorded. The result was a brooding mixture of black metal, doom, noise, ambient and drone.

"I had the need to create music with a broad emotional register, to break from the conventions of earlier methods I used to employ." – Tylden

Soon after, the art-academy graduate and noise-musician Sten Ove Toft (Ryfylke, Faux Pas) was initiated into the project and the second pressing of Dødsønske was released on Tofts label Roggbif. Already then the International community started to take note, and both pressings sold out in a matter of days.

2009 saw the band once again adding new members to the fold in the shape of Espen T. Hangård (KILLL, NoPlaceToHide), Kenneth Lamond (JR Ewing) and Didrik Telle (Obliteration). In the proceeding months the quintet toured the US and Europe, performed a commissioned piece at the Henie Onstad Art Museum as well as showcasing their music at respected festivals such as SXSW, Øya, Incubate and by:Larm. Due to the bands backgrounds in metal, punk/hardcore, noise and indie, Altaar’s live shows became an almost ritualistic experience. With concerts played either in perpetual darkness, stages bathed in candlelight or illuminated by projections of handpicked films, the results drew the audience into a place where they had to acquiesce, or react. Which made the music all the more poignant and central.
