Anneke van Giersbergen posts new song

Metalnews Power of
With around a month to go till the release of Anneke van Giersbergen’s brand new solo album ‘Drive’, we are now pleased to premiere the title track from said album, due to be released on the 23rd September. Check out this fantastic slice of rock here:

Anneke had this to say about the track:
"In a time when entire albums are being created by transferring files online, I really wanted to do things the old-fashioned way and record an album together with a group of musicians in a studio. The album is infused with enthusiasm and freshness, I'm really happy with it."

She is also pleased to announce that she will be taking part in the first annual Progressive Nation At Sea 2014, which is due to take place between the 18th and 22nd February. The cruise also includes frequent collaborator Devin Townsend, as well as Transatlantic, Spock’s Beard, King’s X and many more. For more information and tickets, check out

Talking of label-mate Devin Townsend, he recently recorded a special message for Anneke which you can check out below, as she makes an appearance on his stunning forthcoming DVD of The Retinal Circus. Watch that here:

Kreator: "Dying Alive" out now!

Metalnews Power of
»Dying Alive«, the brand new DVD/Blu Ray offering by German thrash titans KREATOR is out NOW!

The DVD/Blu Ray features the band's sold out homecoming show in Oberhausen, Germany on December 22, 2012 after an extensive 45 days European tour in support of their highly successful album »Phantom Antichrist«. The packed and sweat driven show was filmed by 24 cameras as well as guitar and even mosh pit cams.

Yesterday, Thursday, August 29, KREATOR held a highly successful theatrical premiere at the renowned „Lichtburg“ theatre in the band's homewtown Essen. The entire band not only made an appearance at the event but also took part in a Q&A and a signing session afterwards.

With more than 500 fans attended the screening, »Dying Alive« even outnumbered the official premiere of controversial German movie »Feuchtgebiete« the week before.

Photos of the event can be viewed here:

Commented mainman Mille Petrozza: „We had a killer night at legendary Lichtburg in Essen yesterday. Thanks to all the fans, friends, buddies and relatives for showing up. When I was just a kid, watching »Conan the Barbarian« two days in a row, I would have never dreamt of watching a concert movie of my own band on this big screen. Lichtburg is and will ever be the best theatre. Not only in Germany, but worldwide. I also want to thank the organizers of Lichtburg for their awesome support of Essen's metal scene!“

Aggressive and melodic metal - this is the brief characterization of the danish band Diamond Drive, which along with a forceful, energetic and enthralling live-performance marks its potential on today's rock- and metalscene.
Since 2006 the band has released three critically acclaimed EP's. “Early 2007”, “The Infidel’s EP” 2008 und finally "Reset-Press-Play" which after a change of the lead singer and new, completely different approach to the material appears in 2010. now aptly described their style as " punchy, crisp alternative rock, flirting with metal".

The first longplayer Diamond Drives, TEMPORALITY, which is released in June 2013, was created in summer 2012 in collaboration with some of the best in the music industry, produced by Jacob Bredahl (The Burning, The Kandidate, Koldborn, etc.), mastered by Tue Madsen ( The Haunted, Sick of It All, Mnemic, etc.), coverartwork by Mircea Eftemie (Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad, Nevermore, Threat Signal, etc) and photos by Stefan Wessel und Morten Rygaard (Rammstein, Chris Cornell, Timberland, etc) and shows with 12 first-class tracks a new, more aggressive and energetic band.

Eluveitie working on new album

Metalnews Power of
Rumour has it and spread across the endlessness of the Internet and beyond, now Swiss Folk Metal gathering ELUVEITIE have officially confirmed that they are working on a new record. Over a year has passed since the late creation »Helvetios« was released via Nuclear Blast.

The upcoming weeks will see the eight musicians on the final shows of their “Helvetios World Tour”, after having traveled around the globe for 20 months. After the tour, ELUVEITIE will take a break from playing live, with the exception of this years’ “ELUVEITIE & Friends Festival” of course.

Currently the band is fully focused on the follow-up to »Helvetios«. Work on their seventh studio album is already at full force - both, conceptionally and in song writing.

Commented the band:
“Keep your eyes and ears open! You can expect more news on this soon!”

Lord Volture finishes recording new album

Metalnews Power of
Dutch heavy metal band LORD VOLTURE have finished the recordings for their yet untitled, third full-length studio album. The album was recorded at Final Focus Studio Tilburg and Split Second Sound Studio Amsterdam and engineerd by Yuma van Eekelen (Exivious, ex-Pestilence) and Bart Hennephof (Textures). All tracks are now going to Swamp Studio Raamsdonk to be mixed by Stephen van Haestregt (ex-Within Temptation, ex-My Favorite Scar). A release is expected for early 2014.

Frontman David Marcelis about the new album: “We cannot wait to share the new tunes with the world. We’re so proud to have made another album which is 100% LORD VOLTURE, yet renewing in its own way. The compositions are more compact and in-your-face than on our previous records, but at the same time there is more rest and maturity and a better flow. Everything sounds loud, tight and confident, even in the unmixed and uncompressed tracks. Each of us has grown a lot since our last release ‘Never Cry Wolf‘ in 2011, drums, bass, guitars, vocals,.. everything. If you ask me, this will become an instant-classics-only album!”

In less then two weeks LORD VOLTURE embark on the ‘Wolves In Bohemia‘ tour in Czech Republic, Germany and the Netherlands. More tours and shows are coming up in October, November, December and January for and the Netherlands and also covering France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark and Northern Ireland. The band has announced that they will play live a number of the new album songs alongside classics from the Beast Of Thunderand Never Cry Wolf albums.

Joseph M. LaCaze passed away

Metalnews Power of
Joseph M. LaCaze, New Orleans native and drummer for EyeHateGod, Mystick Krewe of Clearlight and Outlaw Order, passed away on August 23rd in New Orleans after a very successful five-week UK and European tour with EyeHateGod.

He also performed ceremonial voodoo drumming in numerous solo experimental electronics projects. Doctors confirmed to family members that the cause of death was respiratory failure. He also suffered from long term asthma.

Hell reveals album details

Metalnews Power of
Risen from their own legacy, having disbanded in 1987, HELL were reincarnated in 2011 with the addition of Andy Sneap (guitar) and David Bower (vocals) joining original members Kev Bower (Guitar and Keys), Tony Speakman (bass) and Tim Bowler (drums). Now the British quintet is about the release the follow-up to its highly acclaimed debut »Human Remains« (Nuclear Blast 2011). The sophomore offering of the band, »Curse And Chapter« will also be released via Nuclear Blast on November 22nd 2013.

»Curse And Chapter« will include a bonus DVD, offering 6 songs from their show at the Darwin Suite Assembly Rooms in Derby, on February 23rd, 2013.

As a first lead-off single, HELL will release ‘The Age Of Nefarious’.

Commented Sneap on the upcoming release: "We've been working solid on the album for the last couple of months between gigs, although we've been demoing to a good standard over the last year or so. This time around the album consists of around 50% old material 50% new. We really see this as a band that’s moving forward rather than a nostalgia trip, obviously there's a lot of history within the band, but there's also a whole world of ideas we want to get out. We have this week left tracking, 4 more vocals and bass to get down, 2 more songs of guitar and then mix. I'm super happy with how things are shaping up, it feels more like a band on this record to me than the first, which I guess is just a natural progression of everyone playing together a lot more over the last couple of years."

Concerning the lyrical content, vocalist David Bower added: “Alongside some of our favourite themes of historical, political and religious persecution, intolerance and prejudice, you will find some good old fashioned myths and legends being invoked and reinterpreted in our own inimitable way. We also have some songs in which the listener will be implicitly invited to solve the clues contained in the lyrics in order to find the meaning of the stories for themselves. Being completely aware that many people interpret things in ways that writers do not expect as a matter of course, it seemed logical to take that idea a little further. “

About the album title Bower explains: “It's a hellish play on words of the English saying chapter and verse, and also a reference to a song lyric in ‘The Age Of Nefarious’, the opening track on the record.”

Winterhymn releasing new single

Metalnews Power of
American folk metallers WINTERHYMN release their new single “HUNTSMAN”. “Huntsman” is the first track to feature new lead guitarist Varrik (Elimination, Imperial Vengeance), drummer Valthrun (Schallkrieg), and bassist and vocalist Alvadar (Schallkrieg) since former members Ulfr, Sieven, and Warg departed at the beginning of 2013.

“If you compare the material from Songs for the Slain to ‘Huntsman’ it is easy to hear both the influence of the new members as well as a natural maturation of the band” comments guitarist/vocalist Draug. “One of the goals we set after SFTS was to create a greater sense of cohesion between the folk and metal elements of the music.

We wanted the violin and keys to feel just as natural in the mix as the more traditional instruments, complimenting each other rather than one supporting the other, and they definitely do in ‘Hunstman,’ both thanks to the songwriting and Kevin Brown’s mixing.

The finished product is more intricate and thoughtful, while at the same time more aggressive and driving. It’s a great example of the general direction for the next album.”

“Huntsman” also marks a new lyrical direction for the band, adds Draug. “While we’re still generally suckers for Norse mythology, we’re abandoning the viking themes in favor of a fantasy of our own creation. At the end of the day, we want to tell stories, and decided that a world of our own creation would hold the fewest barriers. Drathna, the main subject of ‘Huntsman,’ is just one of the characters who will appear in the next album, which is shaping up to be a loose concept album.”

Winterhymn, founded in 2009, have received not only national, but also global recognition as one of the few groups of Americans to carry the folk metal flag. They have been nominated for two Cincinnati Entertainment Awards, performed across the US (including shows alongside Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, Eluveitie, Turisas, and many more) and in 2011 independently released their debut full-length album Songs for the Slain, featuring the single “Stand Your Ground.”

Look for “Huntsman” as a name-your-price download on on September 9th, 2013.

Sepultura reveals album artwork

Metalnews Power of
Legendary Brazilian metal icons SEPULTURA have revealed the cover artwork and track listing for the band’s forthcoming album, »The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart«, which is set for European release on October 25th via Nuclear Blast. The artwork was created by Brazilian artist Alexandre Wagner, who specializes in charcoal drawing techniques.
In preparing the statements below, SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser & artist Alexandre Wagner collaborated with Brazilian journalist Emanuel Leite, Jr. to gather their thoughts.

Here, Kisser reveals how he discovered the work of Alexandre Wagner:
"It was an indication of Silvio Bibika, who was my roadie for a long time. He always shows me things in general that SEPULTURA might need. He told me about Alexandre - who is from Belo Horizonte [in Brazil, where SEPULTURA was founded] - a year ago. So before we went to the United States to record the album, I was at his house to talk about the cover, tell him the album title, and talk about the concept of the film Metropolis so he could do something original. But when I saw the picture with the drawing, I thought it was all about what we wanted and we did not need something new. I also asked him to do a tribal ‘S’ in the cover’s style, which will be on the back cover.”

Album artist Alexandre Wagner comments on his creation:
“This series of work in charcoal drawing [for the album] I did when I still lived in Belo Horizonte. They were all made there and are quick drawings without much reference, almost an experimentation that may have come from a desire to use the most basic of basic materials - coal, paper and wood. The cover design was ready, Andreas saw and liked it. We talked a little more and I also sent some other pictures for the booklet. I was pleased with the choice of the theme of the album; I like [Austrian filmmaker] Fritz Lang very much and not to mention only Metropolis, but Dr. Mabuse der Spieler [Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler, Lang’s 1922 film] is a fucking movie!"

A fellow Mineiro from Belo Horizonte, Alexandre is glad to be part of SEPULTURA’s history.

"It’s impossible being from Belo Horizonte and not know the band,” he says. “Some of their albums followed me for a long time, especially [1993’s] »Chaos A.D.«. I remember seeing ‘Refuse/Resist’ on TV and thinking that was wonderful. It's really cool to work with the guys, being part of something together. It is somehow a shared history."

To see more of Alexandre Wagner’s work, visit:

The track listing for the album is:
01. Trauma Of War
02. The Vatican
03. Impending Doom
04. Manipulation of Tragedy
05. Tsunami
06. The Bliss Of Ignorants
07. Grief
08. The Age Of The Atheist
09. Obsessed
10. Da Lama Ao Caos (Chico Science & Nação Zumbi cover)

»The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart« was recorded with renowned producer Ross Robinson (KORN, MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY), who worked with SEPULTURA on their landmark 1996 release »Roots«, and co-produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SYMPHONY X, INCANTATION), who previously worked on SEPULTURA’s »Roorback« (2003), the »Revolusongs «EP (2002), and »Nation« (2001).

New Ihsahn album October 21st

Metalnews Power of
Candlelight Records today confirms October 21st  as the North American release date for Das Seelenbrechen, the fifth solo album from IHSAHN.  The album will be available on compact disc, a limited edition digibook (with expanded graphics and liner notes), and double 180-gram clear vinyl.  Pre-orders are set to launch via online and physical retail outlets beginning September 10.

Das Seelenbrechen is a bold and adventurous recording that is a musical contrast to the progressive shades and saxophone augmentations of the former EMPEROR vocalist/guitarist’s previous two albums (2009’s After and 2011’s Eremita).  The album exists in an entirely unfamiliar sonic world as IHSAHN draws upon his most esoteric influences, fully embracing the spirit of the avant-garde.  Comprising ten vivid but disparate explorations in sound that range from bittersweet electronica to deranged and feral improvisation, Das Seelenbrechen is every bit as dark and destructive as the artist’s previous work but is far more disorientating and disturbing than anything he has attempted in his past.

“Musically this album is a very deliberate sidestep to what I have been doing; a necessity to reset the creative parameters so not to fall into formula,” shares IHSAHN“I think I do my best work slightly outside of my comfort zone and I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time.  Free form and improvisational can be scary for a musician but it is very liberating at the same time.”

Recorded at his own studio in Norway in collaboration with drummer Tobias Ornes Anderson (Leprous), Das Seelenbrechen courageously eschews traditional metal instrumentation in favor of a limitless textural landscape that evokes the freewheeling spirit of artists like Diamanda Galas, Scott Walker, and John Zorn.  In discussing the album IHSAHN notes, “even though my music has changed over the years, I feel there is a source of inspiration at the bottom of it all that is constant.  The general idea for this album was to try and dig deep into this raw source and express it without too much refinery and do so within a less familiar musical landscape.  It is the reason for several purely improvised songs and parts on this album.  I spontaneously performed with just lyrics and the idea of the atmosphere I was wishing to create.  While many will feel it sounds different, I don’t think it is necessarily different from my previous album.  And in my head, it will fit in perfectly with my plans for the sixth album.”

Das Seelenbrechen takes its name from Nietzche’s famed Human, All Too Human: A Book of Free Spirits.  Writings by the 19th century philosopher and other historical figures have often found their way into IHSAHN’s songwriting.  “The title is taken from one of his aphorisms on art and how, in its purest form, is neither good nor bad,” says IHSAHN.  The album’s abstract packaging, again conceived by Spanish graphic artist Ritxi Ostariz, embraces the aphorisms essence.

Few artists in modern heavy music have created such an extraordinary and unique body of work as IHSAHN.  Having refined and redefined black metal with the now legendary EMPEROR, Norway’s foremost musical extremist has spent the last decade establishing himself as a fearless and wildly idiosyncratic solo artist.  “Of all my albums, my goals for this one have been the most abstract.  I’ve had quite a rollercoaster ride putting it together but now that it is done I must say I am very pleased.”

Soilwork re-releasing classic album

Metalnews Power of
Swedish visionary metallers SOILWORK will release a lavish deluxe version of their 2001 classic break-through album »A Predator's Portrait« on October 18 (EU) / October 15 (US).

The album will be re-issued as a digipack with an all new artwork and will contain 2 previously unreleased live bonus tracks.

Commented drummer Dirk Verbeuren: „I view »A Predator’s Portrait« as a milestone in several ways. It’s our first recording for Nuclear Blast, still our home to this day, six albums later. It marks the first time Björn “Speed” Strid pushes his vocal talents into the melodic realm. And it concludes the early SOILWORK years, with follow-up »Natural Born Chaos« starting something new and different altogether. Now that we’ve come full circle with our ninth album »The Living Infinite«, the time is right to revisit »A Predator’s Portrait«. This ultimate re-release comes with re-imagined artwork by original cover artist and SOILWORK keyboardist Carlos Del Olmo Holmberg as well as two live renditions of classic »APP« tracks performed by the band’s current line-up during the 2013 North American Infinity tour.

Man Must Die revelas album artwork

Metalnews Power of
The new album of Scottish death/ grind powerhouse MAN MUST DIE will be entitled "Peace Was Never An Option"!

MMD cover

"Peace Was Never An Option" will be released on October 28th in Europe and a day later in North America and contains a guest appearance by Max Cavalera!

Read what the band has to say about the new album:
"This album is by far the angriest yet most diverse one we have done yet, its the next level for Man Must Die, we couldn't be happier with how its turned out, its brutal beyond the word and yet more melodic and memorable than ever. With "Peace was Never An Option" we really focused on the song writing which is really important in MMD's sound, seems to be bypassed a lot in modern music. All the classic metal is all about the songs, this is what influences us, this is what we do."

The Scottish band is known for having rigorous titles for their records that express the essence of the releases and the underlying attitude in short. Following "...Start Killing" (2004) and the two Relapse albums "The Human Condition" (2007) and "No Tolerance For Imperfection" MAN MUST DIEs fourth effort and LIFEFORCE debut is entitled "Peace Was Never An Option". This is both warning and promise!

Glasgow's MAN MUST DIE were formed in October 2002 and catches attention due to their uncompromising, technical death metal style. On "Peace Was Never An Option" the Scotts pursue their concentrated approach of modern extreme metal. The quartet is playing fast and furious songs that showcase the practical experience and tightness of more than a decade within the heavy underground as well as the unbroken dedication and ebullient creativity when it comes to death metal.

About Valkyjra:
Valkyrja is a concept album with a story line based loosely around an anonymous Viking age warrior who leaves his woman and goes off to impress the Valkyrie on the battlefield so that she may bring him to Valhalla, or to Fólkvangr, the home of Freyja—the goddess associated with love, sexuality, beauty, fertility, gold, sorcery, war, and death. One can say the album is also indirectly about women and how they affect men and what men will do to impress and obtain women. Front man and founder Heri Joensen goes on to explain; "the woman that the warrior leaves may represent the earthly women. Freyja, The Lady Of The Slain, may represent the perfection of Women, and the Valkyrie is the link between the two, taking men from earthly to godly women."

Noctum reveals album details

Metalnews Power of
Swedish rockers NOCTUM have confirmed an October 25th/28th release date for their Metal Blade Records debut Final Sacrifice in Europe/UK. Today the artwork and track listing have been revealed. The cover art was painted by Timo Ketola (Sunn o))), Arktau Eos) and fits perfectly with the album's raw, natural sound.

In the town of Uppsala, Sweden in the year 2009 a band called Séance was formed. Moving at breakneck speed the band formed in September, recorded a two-song demo after adding guitarist Per Wikström to the lineup in October, and by November had changed their name to NOCTUM. Within those three months, the band signed an LP deal with High-Roller Records, and a CD deal with Stormspell Records.

NOCTUM's debut album, The Séance, was released in September 2010 via High-Roller and in December by Stormspell. The band finally embarked on their first European tour in July of 2011, and followed that up with a new EP, The Fiddler.

By August of 2011, NOCTUM created enough buzz in the underground to gain the attention of Metal Blade Records, which led to a new worldwide record deal.

With a new record deal in place with a global label, NOCTUM spent the majority of 2012 refining their sound and writing new songs. Their search for original and interesting material led them to a heavier and darker sound. The progression came very naturally for the band and differs from the typical 70's vibe. The new material successfully evokes a heaviness and emotion one might not expect from a "retro" sounding band.

Noctum toured Europe again in 2012, and then welcomed the addition of drummer Fredrik Jansson after Gustaf's departure. Jansson, who spent time in Witchcraft, Count Raven, and Abramis Brama, was added to the lineup in time to record Final Sacrifice in April 2013.

Final Sacrifice is a fictional horror story where each song communicates a portion of the overall narrative. The "final sacrifice" is like a red thread that ties the songs together and is the concept behind the art. Final Sacrifice is an analog piece of art in both audio and visual aspects.

The track "Liberty in Death" can be previewed HERE.

Final Sacrifice Track Listing:
1. Conflagration
2. Liberty in Death
3. Resurrected in Evil
4. Deadly Connection
5. Void of Emptiness

7. A Burning Will
8. Temple of the Living Dead

Kill Division launches landing page

Metalnews Power of
Dutch Death/Thrash metal brigade KILL DIVISION has released the first single from their debut album Destructive Force, out October 11th/14th in Europe/UK via Metal Blade Records.

The first single, Locked Up Forever, was written by Susan Gerl, who penned the lyrics for the entire record. The song was written about Natascha Kampusch, an Austrian woman who was held prisoner and tormented in a cellar for over eight years. The story made headlines in 2006 worldwide. Fans can hear Locked Up Forever now at

Comments KILL DIVISION: "Locked Up Forever is a perfect representation of what 'Destructive Force' is all about: fast and brutal riffs, deep growls and aggressive screams and slow, heavy parts topped with melodic leads."

Fans can also pre-order the album which will be available as a limited first edition Digipak-CD, on vinyl and as a digital download at There's also a shirt bundle available!

Taking their experiences from Legion of the Damned, God Dethroned, Asphyx, and Inhume, Richard Ebisch (guitars, bass, vocals), Susan Gerl (guitars, vocals) and Roel Sanders (drums) decided it was time to release their combined sound on the World with their debut album Destructive Force.

Both Richard Ebisch and Susan Gerl tracked the vocals for Destructive Force. This is something neither guitarist had done in the past. Gerl comments, "recording the vocals was initially a challenge for us since we are first and foremost guitarists. Neither of us had any experience with singing that long and that much and recording our vocals this way. I used to do some additional vocals with my previous bands but had never recorded any vocals for a full length CD. But we were really well-prepared and had practiced our singing extensively beforehand. The recordings went smoothly and we are really happy with the way our voices sound on the album."

On Destructive Force, expect a practiced, precise, and mercilessly heavy attack from three veterans of the European death metal scene!

Destructive Force was recorded at Toneshed studio, the place they called home for many late nights and mixed and mastered at Andy Classen's Stage One studio with hammer, care, and kerosine.
