Saxon releasing new album in November

Metalnews Power of
British heavy metal legends SAXON produce a series of alternative takes on classic favorites to herald a worthy new entry to the Saxonian Institute of Metal on their new album, Unplugged and Strung Up.

There is always feral beauty in a raging beast...and with Unplugged and Strung Up, SAXON's selection of unique, fresh and adventurous interpretations of material previously heard only with raw heavy metal thunder, the point is triumphantly underscored.

Unplugged and Strung Up reveals layers and pieces previously dormant in many of the 14 classic SAXON songs chosen for this makeover, thanks to some ear-catching new arrangements and mixes. Recorded, mixed and mastered with Andy Sneap in Derbyshire, UK earlier this year, Biff and co. re-evaluated, re-worked and re-energized the towering likes of ‘The Eagle Has Landed’ and ‘Crusader’ by introducing orchestral dynamics to offer added dimension. ‘Frozen Rainbow’ from the band's 1979 debut, gets a stunning acoustic reprisal which transports it into a power ballad to be proud of, whilst ‘Red Star Falling’ soars and sweeps the emotions with its orchestrally-arranged dovetail.

As if this reinvention wasn't enough, SAXON superfans and collectors can purchase a digipack version of the release which will include 2002's storming set of full-volume, pedal-to-the-metal re-recorded hits Heavy Metal Thunder. Featuring staple SAXON stormers such as ‘Motorcycle Man’, ‘Strong Arm of the Law’ and ‘Dallas 1pm’, it is a quintessential part of any collection.

The full-track listing for Unplugged and Strung Up is as follows:
01 Stallions Of The Highway (Remix)
02 Crusader (Orchestrated Version)
03 Battle Cry
04 The Eagle Has Landed (Orchestrated Version)

10 Just Let Me Rock (Re-recorded Version)

‘The Seed Of Foolishness’ sees Extrema going back to its Thrash Metal roots, displayed in 10 powerful new tracks which have already been described as some of the best ever written by the band. The album takes its inspiration from a series of events that led to the economic crisis that we are all suffering today, providing therapy for all the anger and frustration resulting from it. “Combat Metal” was how fans and critics alike used to refer to when talking about Extrema at the time of their incendiary debut album ‘Tension At The Seams’ but such definition is more relevant today than ever.
"With their sixth album Extrema combine modernity and tradition, adding undisputed value to their extensive catalogue of songs" (Rock Hard/Germany)

"'The Seed Of Foolishness' displays quality on a high level and both hate and catchiness are celebrated extensively." (Legacy/Germany)

"It's an album full of galloping riffs and old school thrash. They also inject some of that groove, which adds diversity and some tempo shifts. Gianluca Perotti's vocals are also diverse, going from an Anthrax style sing/bark to In Flames-esque melodic singing. The veterans sound reinvigorated, combining old and new." (

"We recommend to make an appointment with the chiropractor before purchasing this disc. Your neck will thank you!" (

Vlad In Tears were formed by three brothers Kris (vocals & piano), Lex (guitar) and Dario (bass) and their lifelong friend since preschool Alex (drums) in 2005.

The band, originally based in Italy, soon started jamming cover tunes, until they created their own dark sound. This discovery was taken on well by their rapidly growing fan base. It was so well accepted, that they were soon given the opportunity to play shows in Austria, Switzerland and the former Yugoslavia before they even had ten tracks ready for their first demo „After The End“ was recorded. Shortly after signing their first deal with Aural Music, they released their debut album „Seeds Of An Ancient Pain“, with which the band became very popular in the press.

In 2012, Vlad In Tears had to reorganise themselves due to Lex sadly leaving the band and Luca (guitar) and Salvatore (guitar) replaced him on the guitars. During this period, the drummer Alex also decided to leave the band due to touring stress and Cosmo from Transylvania replaced him behind the kit and the band was complete once again.

These line up changes proved to be important to re-establish themselves going back to their roots. Having the new members in place and the additional creative input from both Salvatore and Luca’s prominently heavier sound, they set about writing new material. Adding industrial and electronic sounds to the background of the heavy guitar elements, Vlad In Tears new sound was created.

Their relocation to Germany’s capital Berlin has been another career move that helped stamp their musical mark on German ground.

Despite all the changes, Kris kept searching of new inspirations for Vlad In Tears. Kris: „ In a nearby town where I come from, lies Monte Trocchio. The climb up the mountain has always had a catharsis effect on me. Once at the top I get undressed and scream all my aggressions and emotions out. It helps me clear my thoughts and to create new song ideas. “

The effectiveness of Kris’ tactic for the new album will be presented on the release date scheduled for the end of 2013. Even though a lot has happened in “Vladyland“, the album is still worthy of the name Vlad In Tears. They’re about to prove again that dark rock does not always come from Scandinavia and that Italians still have a lot to offer to the scene. The fourth studio album of Vlad In Tears is nearly completed.

Nazareth are a Scottish rock band that had several hard rock hits, as well as scoring with the Felice and Boudleaux Bryant-penned ballad "Love Hurts," in the middle of the 1970s.
Nazareth was formed in December 1968 in Dunfermline, Scotland, out of the ashes of semi-professional local group The Shadettes (formed in 1961) by vocalist Dan McCafferty, guitarist Manny Charlton (ex Mark V and The Red Hawks), bassist Pete Agnew, and drummer Darrell Sweet. They took their name from the first line of The Band's classic song "The Weight" ("I pulled into Nazareth / Was feelin' about half past dead...")

The band moved to London, England in 1970, and released their self-titled debut album in 1971. After getting some attention with their second album Exercises, released in 1972, Nazareth issued Razamanaz in early 1973. This collection spawned two UK Top Ten hits, "Broken Down Angel" and "Bad Bad Boy." This was followed by Loud 'N' Proud in late 1973, which contained another hit single with a hard-rocking cover of Joni Mitchell's song "This Flight Tonight." Then came another album Rampant, in 1974, that was equally successful although it did not yield a single. A non-album song, again a cover version, this time of Tomorrow's "My White Bicycle," was a UK Top 20 entry in 1975.

Hair of the Dog was released in 1975. The title track of that album (popularly, though incorrectly, known as "Son Of A Bitch" due to its chorus lyrics) became a staple of 1970s rock radio. The American version of the album included a song originally recorded by The Everly Brothers, and also covered by Roy Orbison, the expressively melodic ballad "Love Hurts," that was released as a hit single in the UK and in the U.S., where it went platinum. The track became the band's only U.S. Top Ten hit.

In 1979, second guitarist Zal Cleminson was added to the lineup, remaining for two albums, No Mean City and Malice in Wonderland, and contributing numerous compositions. Malice in Wonderland produced a popular AOR single called "Holiday".

Various Nazareth lineups continued to make studio albums and tour throughout the 1980s and 1990s, although their popularity had declined such that some albums no longer received neither a UK nor a USA release. they remained popular in Europe, particularly Germany, where "Dream On" became a hit single.

In 1999, while touring the U.S., original drummer Darrell Sweet died at age 51 of a heart attack. He was replaced by bassist Pete Agnew's son for later editions of the band. More recently the band toured Canada with the opening act Headpins.

In February 2008, a new album was released on the Hamburg-based label Edel Entertainment entitled The Newz. The release of the album coincided with Nazareth's fortieth anniversary tour which started on 25 January in Sweden and visits most of Europe, finishing on the 4 November in Norway.
