God Dethroned to return in 2015

Metalnews Power of
Influential Dutch death metal stalwarts GOD DETHRONED performed their final shows as a band in 2011 at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting, and in early 2012 on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. In 2015, they are plotting to return to the stage. The band will begin where they left off, and will be performing as part of 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise in January 2015! GOD DETHRONED front man, Henri Sattler, explains in the quote below.

"In early 2011, I was facing two options: one was to announce a break, and the other option was to quit the band. I definitely needed time away from it all, and having a break wasn't reassuring enough to know if I would be able to recharge the batteries for another go. Oddly enough it was at the funeral of the man who discovered us in the first place that I came to realize the story wasn't finished yet. So here we go again. Don't think you will be able to see us playing every club for weekends on end. We will only play a small selection of shows and this won't happen before 2015. Besides that, the core of the band will consist of only Michiel and myself. We'll have some cool guest musicians lined up, though, to make sure we'll give you the best performance possible. Last but not least, our first shows will be where we played our last ones three years ago. Our rebirth will happen at 70,000 Tons of Metal 2015. See you around!"

GOD DETHRONED released nine full-length albums from 1992-2010. The most recent pair of albums, "Passiondale", and "Under the Sign of the Iron Cross" both turned out to be the most critically-acclaimed and well-received albums of the band's entire career. Both albums also centered on the subject of WWI, the history of which Sattler took an interest in enough to pen two albums worth of lyrics and music. Watch the music video for "Poison Fog" from "Passiondale" on youtube HERE.

"…nears Emperor levels of soaring blackened metal majesty." Revolver Magazine

"a fist-pumping and head-sticking monster…a brilliant combination of inspiring melody, death metal brutality, and the subtle arrangement to make it all work."

"A superb follow-up to Passiondale and further evidence that God Dethroned is on a musical roll of a lifetime." 4.5/5,

AtropomorphiA announces new album

Metalnews Power of
Dutch necromantic Death Metallers AntropomorphiA are ready to unleash their new album 'Rites Of Perversion' upon mankind!

'Rites Ov Perversion' is set for release September, 12th on CD and LP! Click HERE to check out the landing page and front art, stream the first single 'Nekrovaginal Secretions' and make sure to surf through the pre-order section!

Comments AntropomorphiA: "With 'Rites ov Perversion' we created a more organic layered and violent album, we explored within the realm of our musical origin and its atmospheric grimness, but at the same time not limiting ourselves to the sinister beauty of other dimensions. There are songs that have a bleak mid-paced drive and songs that just have primitive skull penetrating riffs…its the definition of this band, where we stand and what we are in this point of time…behold the sway of death!"

'Rites Of Perversion' is the successor to 'Evangelivm Nekromantia', an album that stirred the attention around the band some more, which resulted in the band doing several performances, including festival appearances at Neurotic Deathfest and Extremefest, a.o. Because of the violent and occult nature of the topics AntropomorphiA deal with, it even drew the attention of the German authorities, almost getting the album banned completely from the shelves in this particular country.

'Rites Ov Perversion' track listing:
01. Temphioth Workings
02. Carved to Pieces
03. Inanimatus Absqui Anima
04. Crowned in Smoldering Ash

Hacktivist releases new song on Monday

Metalnews Power of
Milton Keynes-based tech-metal-grime-rock hybrid HACKTIVIST release brand new track ‘FALSE IDOLS’ on MONDAY 4th AUGUST, their first new release since 2013’s ‘ELEVATE’ (not counting their highly successful cover release of Jay-Z & Kanye’s ’N****as In Paris’ at end of last year).

Recorded & mixed in the band’s own studio set-up, ‘False Idols’ once again merges the tight rhymes of co-frontmen J Hurley & Ben Marvin with crushing riffs and jagged tempos, but moves the Hacktivist sound on from last year’s releases, instead pointing the way to the band's upcoming album release, on which work continues (stay tuned for news).

Its not all been time wasted in Hacktivist-world so far this year. The band ventured down under for their first ever Australian shows, appearing on the mammoth Soundwave Festival, and toured Europe as special guests of Korn before starting the 2014 festival circuit and opening for Limp Bizkit in France.

‘False Idols’ comes a few weeks ahead of the band’s main stage appearances at Reading (Friday 22nd Aug) & Leeds (Saturday 23rd Aug) Festivals, and follows the newsof their headlining UK tour this Nov / Dec (a tour as part of the ‘Download Freezes Over’ series of tours, which features Sheffield metal-core-ish-ers DEAD HARTS as main support, and Guildford’s THE ONE HUNDRED opening proceedings).

Keep your eyes out for the link to the 'False Idols' video which will be coming Monday morning.

Brimstone Coven releases debut album

Metalnews Power of
As retro doom metal sorcerers BRIMSTONE COVEN prepare for the official unveiling of their self-titled full-length and inaugural release for Metal Blade Records, today Revolver Magazine summons forth the cosmic echoes of "Children Of The Sun".

Spawned in Wheeling, West Virginia in 2011, BRIMSTONE COVEN manifest a captivating amalgam of dark, smoky cult rock that echoes the eerie reverberations of Black Sabbath and Pentagram, mixed with the classic rock expressions of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, all the while preserving a vintage rock sound mixed with a style all their own. The outfit's Metal Blade debut boasts seventeen inebriating tracks of manic occult conjurings - a combo of their self-released full-length and EP - complete with new mastering and the vintage art renderings of Creighton Hill.

In an advance review of the offering, Metal Underground relays, "Brimstone Coven should appeal to most of the occult rock set for its vintage sound and supernatural atmosphere that pervades throughout the album. The band's use of dynamics is fantastic," furthering that, "the band's members have major chops and their foray into the occult is certainly alluring." Against Magazine notes, "the dry sound can refer to Led Zeppelin, the blues soul derives directly from Black Sabbath and the solid structures scream Pentagram, but somehow BRIMSTONE COVEN manage to do it with a bit of own musical personality and self-consciousness," while Sea Of Tranquility concurs, "this is not your typical stoner/doom release by any means. There is a psychedelic feel throughout the album that drifts between the riffs, adding the right amount of atmosphere and a somewhat spooky element that works quite well."

Adds The Obelisk, "Brimstone Coven is an album that righteously engages the tenets of classic doom. There's an early '70s sway to the material, a looseness in the rhythm section of bassist Andrew D'Cagna and drummer Justin Wood, that gives the chugging, grooving riffs of guitarist Corey Roth both meat and movement, and vocalist 'Big John' Williams meshes with this modus perfectly, the layers of his voice harmonizing and calling to mind the natural feel and melodic range of grandiose '70s prog, working with the music surrounding to give cuts like 'Behold, The Anunnaki,' 'The Black Door' and 'The Séance' a mystique without sounding overblown or needlessly theatrical. It's a careful balance and BRIMSTONE COVEN execute it well."

Fall into the gritty, psychedelic rock swagger of "Children Of The Sun", courtesy of Revolver Magazine, at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, check out "Behold, The Anunnak" still streaming at The Obelisk at THIS LOCATION.

"Brimstone Coven" will be released in Europe via Metal Blade Records on August 1st, 2014. Preorder you copy at THIS LOCATION where you can also sample delightfully jam-laden fifth cut, "The Grave".

Having acquired a unique vocal talent and frontman in the person of new singer Davide Merletto, Planethard have pushed their musical limits in multiple directions, still keeping faith to their roots.

‘Now’, this is the title of the band’s new album, displays a renovated sound made of heavy guitars, a solid rhythm section and addictive vocal lines, tightened together by the most powerful and modern production they have ever benefited from.

These 12 new songs (13 in the Digipack version of the album) sound fresh and regenerating, having been inspired by their authors’ souls and spirituality and handled with deep attention to every little detail.

‘Now’ was produced by Matteo Magni and co-produced by the band’s own guitarist Marco D’andrea and will hit the stores this fall.

New 1349 album in September

Metalnews Power of
1349, Norway´s masters of blackened sonic evil, are back with a new full-length album and pre-ordering starts today!

Four years after the release of the great “Demonoir” and 1349 return with a deadly vengeance. On the 29th of September “Massive Cauldron of Chaos” is set to be released through Indie Recordings worldwide, except for North America, where Season of Mist will be handling the album.

Order your copy HERE!

Here is a comment from the band:
"We entered the studio with an idea of putting everything that 1349 has ever been about into a cauldron, stir it well, and pour in some fresh ingredients - as well as some strange old ones - and come up with our most potent elixir ever. And we brought the spirit to match the ambitious attempt. Boil, boil, toil and trouble...Behold! We have made the most delightfully intoxicating and dangerous potion you can dream of. FEEL THE FIRE! And Hail Hell."

And Joathan Selzer of Metal Hammer UK wrote this about the new album:
“Ravn, Archaon, Seidemann and legendary drummer Frost have gone for an all-out assault this time around, full of rampaging whorls, militaristic blasts and even moments of speed metal amongst the supreme necrotic carnage.”

This spring 1349 toured The US supporting Behemoth and played for sold out venues, and this spring the band shall return to the States again! Europe will also be granted a visit this fall; make sure not to miss the Aural Hellfire as it blaze through your neighborhood!

“It's a song everyone in the band liked and we used to play it on our soundcheck. Slowly it worked itself into our set list, and now it's going to be on our debut album as well. Back in the days lots of bands covered each other to honor the other artist, and they did it with their own touch on it. Some examples are, JIMI HENDRIX 'All Along the Watchtower', JANIS JOPLIN 'Tell Mama', 'Summertime' and 'Ball and Chain', or JOE COCKER 'With a Little Help From My Friends', everyone was doing it with the right reason. For us, we want to honor CHUBBY CHECKER and also bring it back to life by doing the cover version the BLUES PILLS way. Hopefully people like both versions and, yeah, it's just a killer tune.“ - BLUES PILLS

Commented the band:
“With only two day to go until the release of “Origins”, we are proud to present to you the second video for the album: “The Call Of The Mountains”!

This is a song that has a very personal connection to all of us - it is a song about the long searched-for destination at the end of an epic journey, the journey of the Celts who were to become the Helvetians: it is a song about our mystical, majestical and unparalleled alps. We shot the video in a fitting, beautiful (and sometimes vertigo-inducing) scenery, and we hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it for you!”

“The Call Of The Mountains” is the second single of their upcoming album “Origins”

Nubian Rose signs deal

Metalnews Power of
Swedish hard rockers NUBIAN ROSE have inked a deal with UK label Livewire/Cargo Records. Their sophomore album, ‘Mental Revolution‘, is scheduled for a November release. The new album is armed with even heavier riffs, deeper melodies and a more mature production.

Sweden’s master producer and studio wizard, Tobias Lindell, who has produced albums such as ‘Tear The Walls Down‘ and ‘Address The Nation‘ by HEAT, ‘Split Your Lip, from Hardcore Superstar and ‘Last Look Of Eden‘, by Europe, has mixed ‘Mental Revolution‘ and given it an outstanding and impeccable sound. NUBIAN ROSE are planning on taking the next step of their career and aiming to hit the top division.

Christer said, “We are very happy to sign with Livewire/Cargo Records for our second album. They have a reputation as being one of the most honest and hardworking label’s in the business and that says A LOT in the music industry. They have also shown true love to NUBIAN ROSE and our music and that’s of course also very important to us“.

“It’s very exciting to be working with one of my favourite new bands of recent years and signing NUBIAN ROSE to Livewire/Cargo Records has been an aim for some time”
–John Dryland (Cargo Records)

Sofia Lilja Åkerlund – vocals
Christer Åkerlund – lead guitar
Simeon Liljegren – bass
Torbjörn Weijnesjö – guitar, keyboards
Thomas Weijnesjö – Drums

Founded in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2011, NUBIAN ROSE have already made a name for themselves as one of Sweden’s top acts when it comes to energetic, heavy riffing, melody driven, Hard Rock. NUBIAN ROSE evolves around the magnetic charisma and majestic voice of Sofia Lilja, combined with the unique talent of guitarist Christer Åkerlund, NUBIAN ROSE has made sure that they are a force to be reckoned with.

After planning a self-financed, low-key release of their debut album, ‘Mountain‘, in 2012, they were shocked and excited by how the music spread like wildfire worldwide. Within weeks of the Swedish release, they were played on radio stations in the US, the UK, Italy, France and throughout Europe. Rock fans everywhere immediately recognised their hook-filled brand of Hard Rock with tunes such as; ‘Ever See Your Face‘, ‘Reckless‘, ‘Mountain‘ and the outstanding power ballad ‘How Am I‘. Soon they were featured in great rock magazines such as Classic Rock and the legendary Japanese publication, Burrn!. The reviews were excellent, Classic Rock Magazine(8/10), Powerplay (9/10), Rock Hard (8/10), Burrn! (83%), to name a few of the key publications.

Long before the European release of ‘Mountain‘, NUBIAN ROSE were also booked to play the main stage at the first Hard Rock Hell AOR festival in Rotherham 2013. This was the band’s first European show and their appearance was one of the festivals most talked about with Sofia Lilja sporting a Union Jack cat suit for part of the show to mark the event!

This Autumn it’s time for NUBIAN ROSE to hit the ground running, their sophomore album, ‘Mental Revolution‘, is set for release on Livewire/Cargo Records.

Minsk begins recording new album

Metalnews Power of
Peoria, IL psychedelic metallers MINSK have begun work on their new full-length record and first in over 5 years. After a two-year hiatus, the band has been reinvigorated and has written their most ambitious material to date. The album is being recorded at Earth Analog studios outside of Champaign, IL throughout July/August and is being produced by long-time collaborator Sanford Parker. The as-of-yet titled album will see an early 2015 release via Relapse Records.

Founding member Timothy Mead commented on the group’s rebirth: "So much attention and care have gone into this process, this renewal. We knew that in order to really move Minsk forward in a meaningful way we would need to raise the bar all over again. This realization lit a fire within us to transcend what was. So many things had to fall into place to make it what we knew it needed to be. A new rhythm section, a second guitar for the first time since the early days of the band, additional vocalists, Sanford's contributions moving to the realm of synth/noise for this album. Lots of changes, to be sure, and yet the results will be unmistakably Minsk... just Minsk on a whole different level this time around. We cannot wait to share the fruits of these labors.”

Founding member Christopher Bennett further elaborated: "With each album cycle, a multitude of experiences and influences unite to bring about the cultivation of a cohesive and representative grouping of sounds. This new album will present inroads to some of the musical archetypes we initially discussed when starting this band, but ones we have not yet touched on in the macrocosmic sense. It embodies the furtherance and expansion of Minsk in ways desired in the past, but not realized until these songs began to show themselves to us. The aggregate elements combining into a solid form. We hope to reveal this process to any and all who have the ears to hear."

You can listen to MINSK's previous released on Bandcamp here. Stay tuned for more MINSK related news and footage from the studio.

Pain of Salvation’s Daniel Gildenlöw comments on the tour and current band activity as follows:
“A few months back I asked myself if I'd ever be able to be on stage again. I had a close call in January, way too close, and when I got out of the hospital I could hardly walk a flight of stairs without sitting down for a few minutes. The stage seemed so far away.

Did I ever mention that I'm stubborn? :)

Now, against all odds, and after having kicked ass at Sweden Rock, Steel Day and Be Prog Fest, we are thrilled to come back to the US for a coast-to-coast tour, including Las Vegas and Mexico! Yes, you wonderfully crazy Mexicans, you finally got what you've asked for all these years, and we look forward to meeting you all.

Old-school fans will be thrilled to note that for the *first and only time ever* we are performing the album "Remedy Lane" in its entirety at ProgPower USA! We are also hosting the Mid-Week Mayhem night at the ProgPower and will serve up some good old POS and unexpected happenings – this intimate night will be something very special.

Me? I am extra happy about the Las Vegas date. For every trip to the US we've done, I have asked for a Vegas show. "It doesn't matter if only two people show up for the gig, I still want to play Vegas! In Elvis suits!" God damn it, the time has come! Suit up!”

In related Pain of Salvation news, InsideOutMusic is happy to announce the first ever LP release of the band’s classic albums “The Perfect Element Part I” from 2000 and “Remedy Lane” from 2002.

In related news, LEPROUS are currently working heavily on the follow-up album for “Coal”.

LEPROUS’ Einar Solberg checked in with the following update:
“It's been a very intense spring, where we've had the goal to write two song sketches every week. The purpose was that we did not want to spend lots of time perfecting ideas that were never that good in the first place, thus being able to choose between the ones with the most potential before starting making proper songs out of it. The way we work now allows us to maximize the potential instead of spending lots of time trying to save a poor sketch.

In May we had 30 sketches, and after a lot of talk back and forth we've selected approximately half of them for further development. I still don't know how many songs we will end up with on the final album, but now we will have the luxury of putting together the "perfect" combination.

I have been twisting and turning my creativity to the point of the extremely tiring, but you can't sit there and wait for the inspiration to magically fall into your lap. Some of the best sketches were written when I least expected to be creative, which is a good proof that you just have to keep on writing no matter what. I'm very happy about those months with hard work now.”

LEPROUS’ latest release, “Coal”, is available as standard CD, as limited edition Mediabook CD (with expanded booklet and two bonus tracks), as 2LP on 180 gr. vinyl or as digital download.

All European formats of “Coal” can be ordered from the IOM webshop here:

“Coal” entered the national sales charts in Norway on position # 65 upon release and was also voted “album of the month” by the magazines Aardschok (The Netherlands), Scream (Norway) and Rock Hard (France).

“Coal” was produced with Heidi Solberg Tveitan & Vegard Tveitan of Mnemosyne and Jens Bogren & Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Symphony X, Kreator) mixed/mastered the album. The album’s cover artwork was once again provided by American artist Jeff Jordan, who already painted for the previous LEPROUS album “Bilateral” and bands like The Mars Volta.

New Cripper album almost done!

Metalnews Power of
German Death/Thrashers CRIPPER are in the process of mixing their new album.

Here's an update straight from the studio: "Fellas, a big step in the progress of producing "Hyena" is done. We are happy to announce that all recordings are finished and we are entering the mixing phase now. It's still 4 months from now until release, but to give you some sneak peeks, here's another podcast for you. Besides the audio recordings, we also filmed our whole set at Metaldays festival in Tolmin/Slovenia. Strangely enough, it was the first time ever that we played in the rain, even though the overall festival weather was brutally hot and sunny! The audience didn't mind, neither did we. Crowdsurfers, circle pits, wall of death and a rowing pit made all our worries disappear - thanks to everyone getting soaked with us! We had a massively positive feedback at our signing session, where the line of people wouldn't stop for a whole hour. Crazy shit!"

Check out the first webisode at THIS location and click HERE for the brand new, second edition!

CRIPPER convince with their enthralling mix of old-school and modern Thrash Metal. Served with technical refinement and a lot of groove, they kick ass while being varied and distinct. Since their founding in 2005, the guys and gal from Hannover, Germany left their marks as being a rousing live band, carrying the audience with dashing songs and sweaty shows. On tours with Overkill and Onslaught, CRIPPER spread their virus throughout Europe. Once a big festival got infected, they gladly book the band repeatedly - therefore CRIPPER played several times on festivals like Summer Breeze, Wacken Rocks, Metalfest and Rockharz Open Air. But there's even more - boarding the well-known 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise ship from Miami twice, playing the Brutal Assault festival in the Czech Republic, shows at the Bang Your Head, in Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Switzerland and being invited to enter the stage of the Slovenian Metaldays 5 (!) times let CRIPPER gain international recognition and a continuously growing fanbase.
