Blind Guardian posts album trailer

Metalnews Power of
Metal’s most epic storytellers BLIND GUARDIAN have just released the first new album trailer for their highly-anticipated tenth studio release, »Beyond The Red Mirror«, due out in Europe on January 30th, 2015, February 2nd in the UK and February 3rd, 2015 in North America.

“It is impossible for us to choose a song that represents the whole album. The upcoming single needs to be seen as an appetizer- 'Twilight Of The Gods' is perfect, because it reveals incredible dynamic and contains great melody lines”, shares BLIND GUARDIAN vocalist & lyricist Hansi Kürsch.

Watch trailer #1 on the Nuclear Blast YouTube channel:

Encompassing the innovation, melodicism, and neck breaking ferocity BLIND GUARDIAN has been known for, the »Twilight Of The Gods« mini-CD single includes two live tracks recorded at 2011’s Wacken Open Air festival in Germany and can be pre-ordered as a digi-pak or as a vinyl – in different colors - from this location:

The »Twilight Of The Gods« mini-CD track listing is:
01. Twilight Of The Gods
02. Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill) - Live at Wacken 2011
03. The Bard's Song (In The Forest) - Live at Wacken 2011

Four-and-a-half years in the making, »Beyond The Red Mirror« was recorded at Twilight Hall Studio in Grefrath, Germany and produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (SAXON, HAMMERFALL, HELLOWEEN). The album’s spellbinding tracks showcase BLIND GUARDIAN’s long-awaited collaborative work with three different classical choirs from Prague, Budapest, and Boston, plus two grand orchestras - each featuring 90 musicians. An endeavour demanding that attention be paid to the lyrics as much as to the music, »Beyond The Red Mirror« is a desperate search for truth, an exploration of the relativities of good and evil, a testimony of the consequences of lost opportunities, a glimpse into a distant universe’s dystopian society, and a story about a prophecy, a promise of revolution, a plot for revenge, and a miracle machine with powers far beyond what mere mortals could have dreamed possible.

Features artwork by long-time collaborator Felipe Machado »Beyond The Red Mirror« is now available for pre-order in the following formats:
· Jewel Case (10 songs)
· Limited Edition Digi-Pak / Digi-Book (11 songs)
· Double LP gatefold vinyl (11 songs)
· EarBook (12 songs plus illustrations, photos, and liner notes)
· Exclusive Limited Edition NB Mail-Order Earbook (12 songs plus illustrations, photos, liner notes + bonus 10”)

The track listing for »Beyond The Red Mirror« is as follows:
01. Ninth Wave
02. Twilight Of The Gods
03. Prophecies
04. At The Edge Of Time
05. Ashes Of Eternity
06. Distant Memories (bonus track on limited editions + vinyl)
07. Holy Grail
08. The Throne
09. Sacred Mind
10. Miracle Machine
11. Grand Parade

The Gentle Storm announce tour dates

Metalnews Power of
Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One, Guilt Machine) & Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering, Devin Townsend Project) have joined forces for new band The Gentle Storm, and they are extremely pleased to announce their debut album ’The Diary‘ will be released 23rd March 2015 in Europe.

They are also pleased to announce that in advance of The Gentle Storm full band shows, Arjen will join Anneke for a select few European live acoustic dates in what will be quite a rare and special occasion.

Anneke had this to say:
“I’m very excited that Arjen has agreed to join me for these acoustic shows. I will play a solo set and halfway through the show Arjen will join me on stage. We’ll perform some Ayreon classics together and premiere a couple of songs that will be on our upcoming The Gentle Storm album. This will be a unique opportunity to catch us performing together and I look forward to sharing the stage with Arjen a lot!”

As previously mentioned, a full all-star band will go out without Arjen in March and April, and the confirmed dates and band line-up can be found below. Anneke comments:
“Since Arjen won’t be joining me during the full band tours (besides a special appearance in Amsterdam), I will take The Gentle Storm on the road backed by some well-known Dutch talents. I’ve unintentionally formed a supergroup with some of the best musicians the Dutch heavy music scene has to offer, including the amazingly talented Marcela Bovio on additional vocals."

New Melechesh album in February

Metalnews Power of
Founded by a young guitarist - who adopted the alias Ashmedi - in the city of Jerusalem back in 1993, MELECHESH has always been a visionary band that invented a genre of its own.

On February 6th (EU), 9th (UK) and 10th (US) MELECHESH will release the follow-up album to their 2010 masterpiece »The Epigenesis«, called »Enki«.

The tracklist of »Enki«:
01. Tempest Temper Enlil Enraged
02. The Pendulum Speaks
03. Lost Tribes
04. Multiple Truths
05. Enki - Divine Nature Awoken
06. Metatron And Man
07. The Palm The Eye And Lapis Lazuli
08. Doorways To Irkala
09. The Outsiders

Almost all of the music and lyrics was again written and produced by Ashmedi.

MELECHESH spent one month in their rehearsal room in Hinzweiler (Germany) rehearsing the material before entering the recording studio in Athens, Greece. The band wanted a Mediterranean place to capture the essence of the band’s origins.

»Enki« features 12 string electric guitars aside from the 6 string played on the entire album, for a heavier and subtly richer harmonic sound. The band also tuned their instruments to the pitch perfect 432 Hz frequency rather than the standardized 440 Hz one for a deeper sonic experience within the human psyche and in accordance to vibrations of the universe. »Enki« also features esteemed friends of the MELECHESH society guest vocalists Max Cavalera and Sakis Tolis as well as guest lead by Rob Caggiano.

With so many nationalities in the band MELECHESH have become more comfortable at being labelled as an act from planet earth or just Jerusalem without adhering to any man-made virtual borders. To the band this is metaphorical rebellion.

With this deep and personal album filled with metaphor, spiritual, and philosophical references, and further development of their own Mesopotamian Metal, MELECHESH are yet again ready to spread their sonic magic, enlightened revelations and art to the cosmos.

This is Sonic Magick

Commented the band: “When we first played some acoustic shows, two years ago, we had no idea whatsoever, how the fans would react. We’ve expected anything, but not that our die-hard fans would be those to mostly appreciate it and give us padding on the back. It was just magic, very close and personal. It gives us goose bumps time and again, to play those songs we wrote as teenagers with a totally different sound. We are psyched and glad to have found very special locations that will be the right setting for those concerts.”
Joining DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER will be Sydney, Australia-based singer/songwriter JOE ASTRAY, who spent the past years touring with bands like ANTI-FLAG and FEHLFARBEN.

Kelly Smith quits Flotsam and Jetsam

Metalnews Power of
Flotsam and Jetsam, regretfully announce that Kelly Smith will be stepping out from behind the drums to focus on caring for his family. Please, extend him you love and support during this time, as we wish nothing but the best for our Flotsam brother.

Kelly was instrumental in bringing FLOTSAM back to its current form with a touring and festival schedule that, since 2013, saw the band perform live in 15 countries and across the U.S. for more than 80 shows.

Kelly has issued the following personal message to the FLOTSAM fans: "As of August, my family has suffered the loss of two family members and a third is now in critical condition. With all that has taken place, it has taken me away from the focus of my duties in FLOTSAM for the foreseeable future.

"In 1982 FLOTSAM (first as DREDLOX, then as DOGZ) was born in Scottsdale, Arizona on my parents back patio. Despite all the progress we have made, I am regretfully unable to continue on this journey, as always I only want the best should my comrades continue the good fight. Flotz til Death."

As Kelly departs, FLOTSAM continues work on a new album that is still scheduled for a spring 2015 release, to coincide with the band's upcoming European tour and festival dates.

Details on the upcoming album and new drummer will be released soon.

Chris Broderick quits Megadeth

Metalnews Power of
MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick has released the following statement:

"Due to artistic and musical differences, it is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from MEGADETH to pursue my own musical direction.

"I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you the fans have accepted and respected me as a member of MEGADETH for the last seven years, but it is time for me to move on.

"I wish Dave [Mustaine] and everyone in MEGADETH all the best.

"I am working on a few things of my own and hope that when they come out, you will all dig it."

Drummer Shawn Drover quit MEGADETH yesterday (Tuesday, November 25) "to pursue [his] own musical interests." His statement can be found at this location.

Broderick joined MEGADETH in late 2007 as the replacement for Glen Drover, who left the group in order to focus on family life.

Chris has been playing guitar since he was eleven years old and had been teaching for 15 years prior to joining MEGADETH. Styles range from classical, rock, blues, and jazz. He started taking lessons at 14 years of age studying guitar as well as voice, violin, and piano. Chris has a degree in classical guitar music performance at the University of Denver and the Lamont School of Music. He has performed in many master classes including ones given by David Russell, Benjamin Verdery, and his primary instructor, Ricardo Iznaola. In addition, Chris has taken classes such as jazz improvisation, chord voicing, advanced music theory, and sight-reading.

Shawn Drover quits Megadeth

Metalnews Power of
MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover has released the following statement:

"After 10 years, I have decided to quit MEGADETH to pursue my own musical interests.

"I want to thank Dave Mustaine and the entire MEGADETH family, as well as thanking all the amazing MEGADETH fans around the world!!! I truly appreciate all of you.

"Stay tuned for info on my next musical journey."

During a January 2012 interview with Legendary Rock Interviews, Drover was asked to recount the very unusual story of how he joined MEGADETH. "It was 2004 and my brother Glen was in the band as their guitar player," Shawn said. "They were in rehearsals for their tour and I was in contact with him every day and checking on him and stuff and seeing how things were going.

"The situation just came up where they didn't want Nick [Menza, former drummer] in the band anymore, so I came home and my brother got hold of me and said, You better sit down.' And I was like, 'Why? What's going on?' And Glen was like, 'Well, they want you on the next plane to come out here.' [laughs] This was six days before the first day of the tour, so to be honest with you, that was quite a shock, you know, and I was just like, 'Jesus, man,' because I was well aware of when the tour was starting. So I called my wife and filled her in real quick and I was on a plane bound for Arizona a few hours later to rehearse with the band. We rehearsed for four days, travelled the fifth day, and the sixth day was the first show of the tour.

"It was quite a daunting task, but looking back now, I probably wouldn't want to do it any other way. It was pretty cool and I really didn't have time to freak out or be nervous or anything like that. I was so focused on learning the songs that I didn't know yet, they had just put out 'The System Has Failed' and I hadn't heard a note of it at all because it was just released. I tried to learn and cram as much material as I could in those four days of rehearsal.

"The first show was in front of thousands of kids and was off the hook; it was a great show. It's funny, because for some reason, the barricades weren't up at that venue and the kids were jumping all over the stage and going crazy. I guess nobody remembered to, or whatever, so it turned into an old-school MEGADETH thrash show with kids stagediving and the whole bit, so I thought that was how it was going to be all the time, which was fine by me, you know, because I am definitely from that era. [laughs] Come to find out someone messed up and everyone was like, 'What happened to the barricade?' and I was like, 'Oh, OK….' [laughs] It was pretty funny and I have a lot of fond memories of that time. It was nerve-wracking, of course, but it was so exciting and I was just so focused on learning that it kind of all worked out."

MEGADETH's latest album, 2013's "Super Collider", arrived in stores via mainman Dave Mustaine's new label, Tradecraft, distributed by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe).

January releases from AOR Heaven

Metalnews Power of
Product: Ammunition – Shanghaied
Release Date: 23.01.2015
Label: AOR Heaven
Age Sten Nilsen is picking up where his former band Wigwam left off. Penning new rock anthems with Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse/W.E.T) in Stockholm since October 2013.  When Wigwam surprisingly decided to call it a day after 13 years, Age Sten soon formed his own band, recording the new songs in the vein of the new band effort Age Sten Nilsenʼs AMMUNITION.

The new material wears the same catchiness as Wigwam, yet offers a rougher and more subtle sound and arrangements than his former bandʼs latter productions. Produced by one of melodic rocks most esteemed producers Erik Mårtensson, Age Sten Nilsenʼs AMMUNITON is now on the verge of promoting their first album “SHANGHAIED” due for a release in January.

With a dream team of rock musicians in the line-up Age Sten Nilsenʼs AMMUNITION has already had great success in Norway, playing shows to more than 5000 rockers.

This release is available on AOR Heaven outside of Scandinavia.
Line-up: AGE STEN NILSEN –vocals; HAL PATINO -bass (King Diamond/PRETTY MAIDS/Nordic Beast); ROBBAN BÄCK -drums (Sabaton/Eclipse); ERIK MÅRTENSSON -guitars (W.E.T / Eclipse); LASSE FINBRÅTHEN -keyboards (Wigwam/Circus Maximus); JON PETTERSEN -guitars (Ågeʼs Queen show/Bad Habits/Wild Willyʼs gang)

Product: Care Of Night - Connected
Release Date: 23.01.2015
Label: AOR Heaven
When Swedish Heavy Metal band Seven Tears disbanded in 2009, three of the members, Kristofer von Wachenfeldt (keyboards), Jonathan Carlemar (guitars) and Fredrik Lager (bass) wished to carry on their musical endeavours. Linus Svensson (drums) and Carl-Johan “Calle” Schönberg (vocals) rehearsed with the band way back in 2010, and eventually Linus became the band’s drummer. Singer Jens Andersson later joined the band and thus was the first line-up of CARE OF NIGHT complete. The band nicked their name from a poetry by Swedish poet Bruno K. Öijer, did some local shows and recorded two songs for a digital release.

In 2013, the band once again transformed as Fredrik and Jens both left the band. Jonas Rosengren became the new bass player while the Swedes still were in need of a lead vocalist. Calle Schönberg decided to join them permanently and completed the second and latest line-up of CARE OF NIGHT. Erik & Anders Wigelius (from Wigelius-fame) agreed to produce and mix a 4-song E.P. in 2013. The songs showcased the band’s song-writing abilities and with a powerhouse production, the E.P. became recognised and appreciated from fans of AOR/Melodic Rock around the globe at the Autumn of 2013.

CARE OF NIGHT once again turned to the Wigelius brothers to record their debut album “Connected” and signed a deal with AOR HEAVEN for a January 2015 release. The band is ready to serve a slice of sparkling hi-tech melodies, with amazing vocalist Calle Schönberg at the front.

Line-up: Calle Schönberg – Lead vocals; - Jonathan Carlemar – Guitars; - Kristofer von Wachenfeldt – Keyboards, backing vocal; - Jonas Rosengren – Bass; - Linus Svensson – Drums, backing vocals

Enslaved: Diary Of Mad Men episode VI

Metalnews Power of
Checking in from Duper Studios in Bergen, members of Norwegian progressive extreme metallers ENSLAVED offer the sixth installment in the seven-part “Diary of Mad Men” series shedding insight into the band’s upcoming as-yet-untitled thirteenth studio album, set for an early 2015 release.

“It’s our last day in Duper Studios before we move across the hall into Solslottet Studios for the next Metal Olympics event: Grutle’s vocals!” states an enthusiastic Ivar Bjørnson, ENSLAVED’s guitarist & composer. “It has been a great week and the best possible start for this process that will end up in some kind of epic release early next year. Today I’ve been laying down some e-bow Fripp-worship, some atmospheric guitars so soaked in reverb and echo that the speakers are wet, some Mellotron keys, and even a line or two of the good old piano.”

It’s more aggressive,” adds album co-producer Iver Sandøy about the new material, “balancing the progressive feel of the previous few albums with a more evident nod to the band’s darker history.”

Main recordings for the new album are taking place at Duper and Solslottet Studios in Bergen, Norway with additional recordings done at Conclave & Earshot Studios (presided over by ENSLAVED members Larsen and Ice Dale) and Ivar Bjørnson’s Peersonal Sound Studios.

Additional experimentation and sonic exploration will be conducted deep in the woods of Valevåg south of Bergen where the band took a mobile studio to record the infamous ‘Thorn’ 7” single in 2012.

Album number thirteen is being produced by band members Ivar Bjørnson, Grutle Kjellson & HerbrandLarsen together with Iver Sandøy. Mixing will be done by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.

Artwork will be illustrated by long-time collaborating artist and “sixth ENSLAVED member” Truls Espedal, who has painted all seven album covers since 2001’s »Monumension«.

2012’s studio release, »RIITIIR«, garnered ENSLAVED a seventh nomination for a Spellemann Award (the Norwegian equivalent of the American Grammy) in the category of “Best Metal Album.” They have won a Spellemann Award four consecutive times for the following four studio albums: »Axioma Ethica Odini« (2010), »Vertebrae« (2008), »Ruun« (2006), and »Isa« (2004).

ENSLAVED’s most current record »RIITIIR« can be purchased at the following link:

Agnostic Front heading for the studio

Metalnews Power of
Seminal NYC hardcore veterans AGNOSTIC FRONT, will enter Buzzbomb Sound Labs on December 5th to begin recording their 11th studio album. The session will be handled by Paul Miner (TERROR, H2O, ATREYU, DEATH BY STEREO, ETC.,) who will be engineering, mixing and mastering the release. Artwork and layout will be handled by artist Todd Huber, who also works with vocalist Roger Miret’s clothing-line American Made Kustom.

“We are excited to be working with Paul Miner at Buzzbomb Sound Labs on our new record which we are calling »The American Dream Died«,”comments Miret. “This recording promises to be mean, fast and furious; with elements of our classic styles, adding chaotic blasts of real old school hardcore!”

These rarely confronted and always respected leaders of hardcore were established as one of the meanest-sounding bands in the emerging punk genre, helping to initiate the term "hardcore," and placing an entire uproar on the New York map by association. From the start, AGNOSTIC FRONT released a catalogue of fast and violent punk tunes consisting of distinctive and aggressive drumming, fuming guitars, overdriven bass work, and a non-stop barrage of chaotic shouting.

AGNOSTIC FRONT’s latest record, »My Life My Way«, was released on March 22, 2011. It features 13 powerful and anthemic songs laid down by Erik Rutan(MADBALL, GOATWHORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, etc.) at his Mana Recording Studio in Tampa, FL under the watchful guide of producer Freddy Cricien of MADBALL. The record was mastered by none other than Alan Douches (NILE, MASTODON, etc.).

Sylosis posts guitar tutorial

Metalnews Power of
Despite the name, SYLOSIS' forthcoming release Dormant Heart is not a peaceful album: It’s about a powerful force unleashing anger against everyday injustice and a sleeping society that lets these things wash over them, which is perfectly highlighted by the band's recently premiered video for the track 'Leech'.

The video made its online debut last week and today sees the release of another tutorial video by frontman Josh, covering the new track. Learn how to play 'Leech' on guitar here:

Although the official video for 'Leech' is animated, the content is not for the faint hearted. Due to the nature of the video, we aren't able to stream it on YouTube - fans can however watch it over on Vimeo:

The video was animated by Oliver Jones of Better Feeling Films in the UK. It took five hours to film the band and story footage and roughly 60 days to animate. Oliver was the only person working on the project, from shooting the live action footage to animating the entire video. The process he used is called 'rotoscoping', which involves tracing over footage, frame by frame. Frontman Josh commented: "Leech is the second single off the new album. I would say the album is probably our heaviest to date but this song showcases a more melodic and stripped back side to what we do. It's a really dark, sinister doomy sounding song and we thought it would be cool to try something a bit different for the video and have it reflect the vibe of the music. We've always wanted to have an animated music video and it allows for a bit more creativity and makes it stand out."

The second album trailer was posted online a few weeks back and sees Josh explaining the artwork for the new album, including where the idea came from and how much he was involved being an artist himself:

The artwork was created by Bristol based artist BONFIRE (Opeth, Satyricon, Kataonia), who has previously designed some t-shirts for the band. On the theme of the artwork, Josh comments: "The cover relates to sacrifice (the sacrificial lamb is more of a symbol than something to be taken literally) but also the looming, oppressing figure in the background represents corruption and being forced into something against your will."
Album trailer #1: Josh discusses the title of the new album, where it was recorded and who was involved:

Despite the name, Dormant Heart is not a peaceful album: It’s about a powerful force unleashing anger against everyday injustice and a sleeping society that lets these things wash over them.

Speaking about the album Josh states: “It's the most pissed-off, aggressive and intense album we've done, yet it still retains the epic, progressive and melodic side we're also known for. It's a very gloomy and atmospheric album. We've been through a lot as a band and individuals and we've made our darkest album to date.

“The title refers to people going through life on autopilot and being one of the herd, how a lot of people simply accept the way things are just because it's 'tradition' as opposed to taking a good look at the world around you and thinking for yourself. Sometimes there are catalysts that happen and change our perspective or consciousness.”

The album was produced by Middleton with the help of engineer Scott Atkins and was mastered by TesseracT guitarist Acle Kahney.

SYLOSIS began tracking the new album back in March 2014, working away secretly alongside touring commitments. Drum tracks were recorded in May at Monkey Puzzle House by original drummer Rob Callard, who parted ways with the band last month due to time restraints. After filling in for some live shows during SYLOSIS’ Spring 2014 tour, BLEED FROM WITHIN’s drummer Ali Richardson is now a permanent member of the band.

The band revealed the first track from the new album a few weeks ago, titled Mercy:

Josh has since recorded a tutorial of the track for us and that clip is now up on his YouTube channel where he hosts a variety of other guitar tutorials:

"Mercy is the first single off the new album," states Josh. "It's got a pretty dark and heavy vibe to it but it's one of the most melodic tracks on the album at the same time. It's got a big slow, doomy outro with an octave pedal on the guitars so that's going to rumble some guts live."

Engel premiere new video clip

Metalnews Power of
Today is the day! The men around Niclas Engelin (In Flames), better known as ENGEL are set to release their new album 'Raven Kings'.

It will be released on Monday, December 1st. To give you a hint of what you can expect, they present their brand new music video for the song 'Salvation'.

You can watch the clip here:

Guitarist Marcus Sunesson commented on the video:
"The ground crumbles, the skies darken and the hills shake as the last music on earth is heard from a mountain top. Four dark figures, still standing. Sounds that paint a fitting masterpiece to accompany the elemental chaos. There is no Sanctuary from the apocalypse, no Salvation. And yet, that is precisely what they offer. Speaking not of good or evil, instead they offer stark reality".

New Venom album in January

Metalnews Power of
VENOM – the hugely influential British heavy metal trio widely revered for driving and shaping many aspects of the music industry, plus their instinctive blending of metallic power and punk spirit – have confirmed the release of their new studio album, "From The Very Depths", for a January 26th release via Spinefarm Records.

The band are led by vocalist / bassist and original Venom titan, Cronos – who decided against making fans the world over wait too long for this powerful new 14-track release (the follow-up to 2011’s "Fallen Angels", also issued via Spinefarm).

So… Venom will be unleashing their 14th studio album, on CD and download, on January 26th with a double vinyl format to follow shortly after.

Cronos says: “This album is perfect, all three members are totally over-the-top confident with the new songs and the production. We had a great atmosphere in the studio while we were recording, Dante created pure thunder from his drums, while Rage tears the flesh off your face with his riffs, making everything fall into place so well… It’s a strong release and really shows the band maturing into an unstoppable force of pure Black Metal. We can’t wait to play the new songs live for the Legions… Hell Yeah!”
Just as the aftermath of Christmas can be laced with reminders of gluttony and false cheer, Venom will unleash a full-throttle, full-length LP to drag you even further into HELL!

This is the heaviest Black fuckin’ Metal and is not for wimps. Further details will be revealed shortly (naturally).
