The much anticipated acoustic album “Falling Home” by Swedish progressive rock innovators Pain of Salvation is being released as of today in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Finland via the band’s longtime label partner InsideOutMusic.
In order to celebrate the album’s street date, another song off “Falling Home” has now been launched as promotional stream. Check out the pretty unique acoustic cover version of Dio’s classic “Holy Diver” track via the website of UK’s Metal Hammer magazine here:
Pain of Salvation’s Daniel Gildenlöw has checked in to comment about this special song as follows:
“A few years back we were asked to play in a local metal event where every band got three songs from a particular artist. We got Dio on our plate, and decided to make a very special rendition of ‘Holy Diver’. It stayed with us over the years, and we are thrilled finally to be able to present it on recording. We just wish Ronnie could still be around to hear it.
I spent a few months last year listening to Tony Bennett and was deeply impressed with his timing and balance of expressiveness and subtlety. So when we did this odd rendition of ‘Holy Diver’ it presented me with the perfect opportunity to play around with those vibes. Our fans might think this vocal style is new for me, but my family knows better – they’ve heard me singing like this in the car for many years now. Really, people who think I’m using my voice in an extremely versatile way in Pain of Salvation should sit in the backseat of my car a few times. That’s where the shit happens, hahaha.
PS: Luckily, my kids have still not come to the age when they get embarrassed and tell their daddy to please shut up with the singing in the car.”
Most recently, a very atmospheric video clip directed by Stefan Daniels for the acoustic version of the song “1979” was launched at the following location: http://youtu.be/QiZh2fh_1Rk

Pain of Salvation’s Daniel Gildenlöw has checked in about the “Falling Home” release as follows:
“Damn, it will be so nice finally to have this album see the light of day in a context larger than my head, our rehearsing room and a multitude of work computers and hard drives in selected homes. It has been a long time, and the road to release has been very complicated and unexpected, including finding myself in hospital for four entire months after a close call with flesh eating bacteria. Who would have guessed as we set out to record a quick little acoustic something all those many months ago in what seems like another lifetime by now? On the other hand, it has turned this album into so much more than we ever expected it to be. I find the term “acoustic album” very misleading. This album is as bold a statement as any of our albums, and will in the same way offer laughter, tears, surprises and challenges. If it’s not original, if it’s not uncompromisingly passionate, then it’s not Pain of Salvation.”
“Falling Home” is a very special album, which contains reimagined versions of favourite catalogue-songs, two cover versions (“Holy Diver” by Dio and “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed) and a brand new song (The title track, “Falling Home”). Here is the track-listing for the standard version of the release:
